Title: Setting File Allocations in MC Not Working
Post by: EnglishTiger on December 01, 2023, 08:26:38 am
After reading thru this MC32 Forum Thread -  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,137535.0.html  (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,137535.0.html)

I thought I would do a bit of testing.

In MC31 I stopped flac files being associated with MC, closed MC; then I reopened MC and associated flac files with MC and then closed MC.

I then opened Win Explorer located a flac file/track that I knew was in my MC Library and double clicked on it and got an unexpected surprise.

Instead of MC31 opening and playing that track it was that naff replacement for Windows Media Player, aka Microsoft's "Media Player", that was playing the track

You probably need to also set the file associations in Windows.

Probably - but that's not what Associating a File type in MC is telling the user.

Whatever we say is always subject to what Windows wants.

Applications can't directly overwrite file associations anymore. All you can do is "offer" your app, and when nothing else handles them its fine, but if there are multiple associations, Windows will make the user pick.
