Title: [BUG] UHD HDR BD rip from Windows server on a Linux client with HDR display
Post by: mattkhan on December 24, 2023, 10:46:14 am
if I select original format, MC on Linux can't start playback at all
if I select MKV 2160p format then playback starts but the JRVR OSD says the input is SDR

this suggests the conversion is done by the server (via some unspecified configuration) and hence JRVR tonemapping on the client is ignored

am I missing something or is this simply not supported?

Leaving aside the obvious and known gap (MC Linux needs to support bd playback and local file playback), I think it would be nice if there were an "original" option which is effectively a "convert if necessary" option , ie converts bd automatically but presents it in the original format (resolution, HDR etc)

We don't support converting to a HDR capable format at the moment. Unfortunately, conversion also does not tonemap so it's all not great.

Assuming the rip means BD structure,  the failure is otherwise expected at the moment, which means you realistically can't play them at all.
