Open MC's options, type "clean" without quotes in the search bar at the bottom.

You get one hit. The one you want. I've never used it. If I were to use it for the first time, I'd err on the side of caution and make a copy of the folder first. If I were happy with the results, I'd then delete that copied folder. :)

Clean cover art occasionally hiccups and deletes more than it should. Easy to fix. Restore deleted images from the recycle bin. Restart MC (and Windows for good measure) and then execute Clean Cover Art again and it will probably work as expected.

Unfortunately this does not work, I have tried several times and there is nothing in the bin

Try this as a test to verify it is working as expected:

1) Make a copy of an mp3 with artwork inside and import this copy.
2) Change Artist and Album Artist to "Test".
3) right click Cover Art\Save Cover Art to External Location Specified in Options
4) delete the copied mp3
5) click Options\File Location\Cover Art\Clean cover art folder
6) check the recycle bin, you should see the artwork for the deleted mp3
