I had some very odd library corruption after upgrading from v31 to v32. MC was actually creating new music folders on my hard drive! After cleaning up that mess, I now have eight music files sitting in the "removed files" smart list that I cannot clear out. Right click > Delete is not doing anything... How do I clear items out of this smart list?

That smartlist is showing files that were deleted in MC (removed database), but still exist on disk. If you want files that do not exist on disk, the expression should be =1, not zero.
Anyway, deleting them in MC should make them go away. It's possible that they are in fact deleted from the DB, but because they still exist on disk they are immediately automatically reimported.
Try to use the search box instead of a smartlist: go to Audio->Files (or Video->Files) on the tree and search for "~d=r" or "~d=r", then delete them from the results.

Thank you.
Yes, I originally made this smart list to see recorded tv shows that get deleted from the database but are still on the disk. This can occur when I tell mc to delete a tv show before comskip is done scanning, and mc throws an error about "file is in use" but still removes it from the db. Being lazy I just copied this smart list from the forum a long time ago, which happens to include all file types and has served me well (until now).
I tried ~d=r, and these 8 items do show up in that result, but the same exact thing happens when I right click > delete = nothing. No pop up asking me to choose what kind of delete, and the file still shows in the "removed" smart list.
NOTE that I do not want to delete these 8 files from my disk or the database. I only want them cleared out of this smart list.

Are you doing this on an unauthenticated MC client?
-
No, the MC Server.
-
Weird. Perhaps @Matt needs to look at your DB.
-
I should have done the most simple thing of all... RESTART MC
Now those 8 music files are gone, the removed smart list is completely empty!
Last question, can you explain what the ~d=r search means for dummy's. Is it safe to delete all of the results?

Media Center tracks removed files. Then it can handle them nicely if it finds them again to re-import.

Re syntax:
~d means limit the search to a particular database
r means select the Removed database.
