Title: To buy or not to buy.  That is the subject.
Post by: mmairow on February 08, 2003, 05:26:42 am
I have been tested various players available on the market and I was impressed at first with Media Center but I have decided to move on. Reasons:
1) Frequent error messages with download manager
2) Downloads often stop completely with no explanation
3) Importing files into Library: never recognizes all files even though correct 'subdirectory' and 'file types' boxes are clicked. Misses many files making me download one sub-directory at a time.
4) Scrolling through directories (especially the album view) are slow and difficult
5) Different Playing Now views are not consistent, ie on same view sometimes name of album appears, sometimes not. Also, there is no single view that incorporates everything I woulld like to see.

THIS PRODUCT NEEDS WORK!!!

What build are you using?  You can copy your system info from MC help and paste it here.

This goes without saying, it is a BETA version of the program.

Of course it needs work that is why it is in beta. They are changing things all the time. Some thing get fixed, others seem to get broke but it's been my experience they eventually get them worked out.

I'd really encourage you to stick with it, for all the reasons given, and also because it is an incredibly innovative program with dedicated developers who respond quickly to user input.

Or, if you don't want to put up with the inherent beta woes, which are obviously to be expected, why don't you check back when the finished version of MC 9 is available?  I think you're expectations are a little bit unrealistic if you expect a program in beta testing to work flawlessly.

I got a question,
If you've tested so many - whats your alternative solution then?

I'd be interested to hear in a program you've found that works better because I searched long and hard to find one with no luck.

If you've managed then please tell me so that I can give it a try as well as I'm always up for trying out new software.

There are some good players out there but what I like from MC is that everything is centralized. From one program, you do it all. Oh besides that, the sound quality is super. I got my MPC back so I am a happy camper now.  ::)

Thank you all for your comments. I wasn't really aware (or did not think very much about it) that is was a Beta version.

You are right. I have found nothing that has the potential of this product. I guess I was just frustrated when I thought I had found the perfect one, and then everything that I mentioned started happening and I got dejected.

Actually it was the sound quality that drew me to MP also. I was using MusicMatch (but never really happy with it) and playing music I had downloaded from eMusic. Every track sounded terrible! So I played the same track on some other players including MC and that's how I found out that MusicMatch is just a bad-sounding player.

I'll keep with it and hope MC works out these bugs.

Thanks again to all.

Welcome back.  We'll try to get it right (from your point of view).  It should be just a few weeks now.
