I got this error on Gentoo Linux https://bugs.gentoo.org/915528

I will solve it in my ebuild (https://github.com/gentoo/guru/tree/master/media-sound/jriver), but maybe upstream should solve this.

It looks like everything at least as new as bullseye uses metainfo.
I'll probably change that in MC32 going forward.
