Title: MC9 and ripped DVD libraries

Hi there -

My question is about DVD libraries - how well does MC9 handle them compared to music libraries?

I would like to rip all of the CD's and some of the DVD's I own to disk and be able to play any of them via MC9's unified interface.  I don't want to convert the DVD's to DivX but would prefer to store them in original format for playback.  I don't want to have to deal with mounting DVD's "Daemon Tools"-style either, if possible.

Reading previous posts I get the impression:

a) MC9 does not currently know how to "autorip"/catalog DVD's like it does CD's (?)

b) Playback of ripped DVD's stored on disk is not as seamless as playback of music on disk.

Is this right?

What is the best practice for maintaing DVD libraries that are seamlessly playable under MC9?

Is discussing ripped DVD's taboo on this board? (because of the DeCSS/DMCA issues)

If you're ripping your own DVD's, it's fine.

If you're downloading ripped DVD's from other people, it's not.

I know that's not where the law draws the line, but I don't think the law will stand.
