Media Center 9.0.109 beta is available.
Many things will crash and not work. If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90109.exe
Changes
1. Fixed: Possible problem doing "close session" on data CD burns with certain drive models.
2. Fixed: MC would not advance tracks.
3. Changed: ASIO now supports 1 to any number of channels. (limited only by sound card)
4. NEW: Added "Output Format" to DSP Studio -- allows upsampling, upscaling, and stereo to surround mixing using JRSS 2.0. (still a work in progress)
We're still getting more bugs reported than we can fix each build. Please keep a list of bugs you find, and re-report anything that doesn't get fixed each build.
-
New in this version -- tracks change. ;D
Also the output Matt refers to is the 5.1 or 6.1 or x.1. Check Tools/Options/Playback Options/DSP Studio/Output format.
-
Thank you this build has let me import my library and to use my DVD and CD drive. Thank you very much.

-Add Image dialog now has scroll bars again although scrolling is still a bit funky with the skinned scroll bars. Have to drag about 3/4 cm ahead of the bulb to make it move meaning when you reach the end you have to scroll outside the dialog.
-multiple track play is fixed :)
New playback features are nice!! I am now running in 4.1 tried fiddling with the other settings but I dont have the right hardware so ended up with silence...

MC makes the whole system awfully slow after the end of a song... I've traced it to the (built-in) DSP Effects. Occurs with MP3 and with CD Audio.
Also, the new system seems to make the songs stutter at the end. Occurs both with MP3 and CD Audio. Although it only appears to happen for values my card can't handle (but the song plays nicely until the end tough).
Both problems occur with Wave Out and DirectSound.
May be my sound card, but it also may be more generalized. Unfortunately I can't try it with other file types as I had some HDD problems.

ASIO, definetely has a problem. No idea what it is, but doesnt sound clear. Sound like with some kind of noise. Got to switch to direct sound. Direct sounds sounds incredible. Grrrrrrrr...I want my ASIO back!. >:(

Send me an email at matt @ jriver.com and we'll hammer it out Monday.
I had to rewrite the bit-depth conversion stuff to handle multiple channels and I may have goofed on one of the cases. (there are like 10 different ASIO output bit structures depending on the card -- only one of which I have the hardware to test)

Bugs:
1. Playback stops after the last track if 1) Continuous is enabled, 2) the last track is a video (MPG) and 3) the first track is an audio (MP3)...in the Playing Now playlist (of course).
Update - 2003/02/09 08:33PM (CST)
Turns out playback stops after every video file is played...MC refuses to play the next track if the just finished track was a video.
-
I've had this problem with the last few builds. When installing I do the "express" method. After install I see a couple boxes appear with options to check (ie do I want icon on desktop) but these boxes appear for a second and then close before I have a chance to even read them and choose what I want!
-
You'll need to choose advanced.
-
Rear channels on 5.1 TV still don't work.
Put v 107 back in. They now work.
-
1. Still cannot burn data cds--immediately after closing session I get the "illegal mode for this track message again in the status bar", once again, after a normal test.
2. Ipod plugin will not install. It wouldn't on 108 either. I know Steve says its supposed to automatically install, but during the installation, when it gets to the page saying "installing plugins", I get a real quick error message that says "failed to register plugin"--this is the same error message I get when I try to install the latest ipod plugin (9.0.01) myself. I tried hooking up my ipod to see if by some miracle it would be recognized; it's not.
There is no evidence of the plugin when I check the plugin manager. For whatever reason, it's just not installing on my system, either automatically or manually.
3. If I try to convert format (rip/encode a CD to mp3), I get an error message: "Read track failed. Unknown error=1." This is the same message I got on build 108--prior to build 108, I never had any problems with this.
4. If I try to access yadb, MC9 shuts down.

Can I do/test anything on my PC to help resolve the issue where MC is locking all access to my CD-RW drive after just one burn? [Obviously, this still an issue with me...I have to restart MC everytime to gain access to my CD drives again.]
JohnT's reply:
I can replicate this problem here in certain circumstances, so I should be able to get it fixed. It's not really related to burning a CD: try starting MC with a CD drive tray open. Then put any audio CD in it and push the tray in. I think you'll see similar behavior.
Well, JohnT...it doesn't happen that way for me...testing (w/9.0.109 now) like you said using an audio or data CD, MC did NOT lock access to my drives. However, I did a simple data CD burn and MC locked access again (had to restart MC to get access back).

Two issues ... I don't know what they mean:
"Failed to install hh-remote" plugin (or something like that)
and "Version info file is invalid" ... that sounds ominous.

I'm having real problems trying to remove images I have stored as 'INSIDE FILE'.
If I tell MC to remove the picture it appears to work correctly. But if I then delete the files from MC and reimport them it shows the image file as being 'inside file' again.
How do I get it to remove these image files ?
Thanks,
Mark

when tuning channels
and i reach my last station (Ch 50) the next click shows N\A but sound still plays.
the next up click makes it go back to channel 50
when it reaches the highest channel (Mine Being 50) i would think going back to Channel 5 (My Lowest Channel) would be the desired effect.

1)The Playlist scrol bar does not scroll in Min-Me skins
2)Clicking a ***.rm link downloads the file instead of streaming it. If I cut and paste the link in to "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.
3)Clicking on a ***.ram link does nothing. Again, if I cut and paste it into "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.
BOTH file types are registered under MC9 in IE Folder options.
4) Noise, with Replay Gain enabled, in songs that are recorded at HIGHER volume than playlist average. Clip protection is enabled. Restarting the song usually eliminates the problem.
5)If you check the remember volume setting option; MC9 does not reset it back to pre-MC9 level when the program is closed.

From.107 & .108 as well: shift delete from media library stops the player.
-
since .107 media server has been highly unstable for me. It will connect, but sometimes during a song I get an hourglass and media center stops responding. I have to ctrl-alt-del and end task, then audio driver freaks out(what a horrible sound) and I have to restart to stop the audio card from squalking. It appears to only happen when I select a track from the media library as opposed from the playlist. It asks to download a media compontent the freezes. Seem to work ok from playlists though.

King,
It reverts to 640X480 most probably because you have selected a recording profile with that size (or 640 x 240 which is the default profile).
Output size and frame rate in Recording Profile take precedence. Use a recording profile to select a size and a frame rate. Use Advanced Properties->Video Capture Pin ... for choosing a Color Space setting only.

Rear channels on 5.1 TV still don't work.
Put v 107 back in. They now work.
Did you try Configure TV ... and looking at the first tab there? The Audio tab has audio mode selection. This part still needs some work, but try making sure Stereo is selected.

1. Still cannot rip data cds--immediately after closing session I get the "illegal mode for this track message again in the status bar", once again, after a normal test.
I don't think you can rip a data cd. You might want to try and import the files. If that fails copy the files from Explorer into a folder and import then. Unless I'm seriously mistaken, MJ has never done this for me.

Had an idea about the problem of the no sound coming out of the rear speakers when using the TV on the last two versions of MC.
Tried V 109 one more time; got the rear channels with TV & 5.1 working again.
I made absolutely no changes to any settings. How's that for a fix?
Here's what I did...
* Selected TV Options.
* Configure TV.
* Advanced Properties.
* Double clicked on TV Tuner.
As soon as I double clicked on TV Tuner the rear channels started working again. I made no changes to any item in the TV Tuner dialog box. Didn't even select the Cancel or OK buttons.
Why did this happen? All my other settings were already intact & I made no changes.
Is this some strange bug?

Sometimes (from my experience with Win 2000) Windows changes speaker modes on you. I have a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card, it comes with its own little icon to configure in the task bar. Even if I set this one to 5.1 Windows can default it to just two speakers. I don't know if this might be similar to your problems but might be a good idea to see the Windows Settings.

Hi Payam;
That's not the problem. All is ok with Win XP settings & with Creative Mixer settings. All show 5.1.
Also if I re-install MC version 9.0.107 the rear channels come back.
I can get the rear channels working in V 108 & 109 simply by opening the Advanced Properties dialog & double clicking on the TV Tuner item. I make no actual changes, don't even close or cancel the dialog. It just starts working.
As soon as I close out MC 109 & re open it, the rear channels are gone.
-
When d-clicking on a file in my library or MC's My Computer, nothing happens. To get the file to play I have to R-click and select "Play" to get it to play.
UPDATE: This only happens IF there is not a track playing when the d-click is made.

Bugs:
1. The Always On Top feature for the video output window (visualization output, video output, etc.) does not always keep the window on top (in Windowed mode). Does sometimes, but eventually it 'loses it.
Question:
1. How do I turn OFF the 'new' feature of MC that causes MC to automatically minimize when the video window is changed to Windowed mode? Basically, I do not like (HATE) that new feature...I don't want MC to minimize automatically.
-
1) From the Media Library view I am no longer able to hit F2 as a shortcut or use the dropdown Edit, Rename command to edit tag information on a highlighted song. I must either edit in Properties window or click in the cell twice.
2) When editing tag information and I hit the down arrow to edit data in the song below, occasionally nothing happens and I am not able to edit the next line without Clicking in it twice.
-
2. Fixed: MC would not advance tracks.
And it still doesn't with MP+ files encoded with MC and the .dll version of this encoder.
EAC produced copy will advance to the next track. The mppenc.exe version used here is 1.14.
Also, just curious as to how I can set up MC to use the external encoder and command lines? Is it with the %IN %OUT shown on the parameters?
-
Some bugs:
a) Under Playback filter, when assessing the Playback Option, tried to access the Output Format configuration. MC freezes when I tried to exit the output format. Also, to exit the Output Format Menu, there are no buttons.
It would be nice to know what output format we have selected- like 24bit/96K. The information should be shown in somewhere noticeable.
PS: the new feature is great. It allow us to use our sound card effectively.
b) There is some issue reading the CD-TEXT after I burned the CD. It reads the information wrongly. I have to exit MC, and start MC again. The first time, it reads correctly. Subsequently, if I eject the CD and put it back again, it reads wrongly again.

Matt, Hello!, Hello!
Please Fix The Problem With MC9 And Converting Wave To MP3 Where MC9 Takes The File Name And Puts It Into The Name Field. The Wave File Is Already Properly Taged And MC9 Always Screws It Up.
I normaly Rip From CD To Wave Then Wave To MP3 Always Worked Fine Before MC9 Now It Don't. Surly It Was Not Made To Work This Way.
How About If Song Name = "" then Stick The File Name In Name. But Don't Screw Up The Tags I Already Have In There.

Using EAC to get around this problem. Slow, painfully slow, but I don't have MC axe murdering my tags...

I don't think you can rip a data cd. You might want to try and import the files. If that fails copy the files from Explorer into a folder and import then. Unless I'm seriously mistaken, MJ has never done this for me.
I'm sorry it should have read "burn" data cds.

New TV problem...
Sometimes after loading MC I get no TV sound from any channels as TV Config/TV Options... Audio sometimes looses Mixer Device & Audio Line.
This does not happen everytime.
-
INSTALLATION
- message warning of low system resource
- hh_portable.dll plug-in failed
- no sign of pop-up for choice of skins
** not quite true-if I select custom instal instead of express, then it shows…is that correct ?
- no desktop icon
- Jrivers program folder (in Start menu) is empty
** although the last two items seem trivial, don't they show something amiss in the installation procedure?
VOLUME
- No volume control slider
- Ctrl++ inoperative
- Ctrl+- inoperative
- Ctrl+M inoperative
This was ok up until somewhere around 90088 and then disappeared. I've tried disabling/enabling the sound drivers many times as well as uninstalling/reinstalling MC more times than I care to remember. In trying to remember what was going on at that time, I had a big prob with 90088 which screwed up my library. I tried to go back to a previous version but got an error message concerning, I think, that the db was the wrong size. At about the same time, I installed KingS's chartfinder which necessitated the downloading of the MS Runtime files. Could there be a link here maybe ??
EDIT
- works ok when editing a single file (not via properties)
- painfully (and I really mean painfully) slow if I edit through properties
PLAYING
- playlists stop with a buffering problem after the first track
** WORKING AS OF RELEASE 9.0.109 **
RIPPING
- locks up when attempting to access YADB (new problem in 9.0.109)
- fails with a 'Read track failed. Unknown error = 1' message
CD LABELLER
- does'nt print the jpg on the slimline front cover
OPTIONS
- no toolbar buttons available in left-hand panel for customising toolbar
- all toolbar buttons in right-hand panel are described as 'Import Media'
- Device Settings/Type is greyed out. Only 'Auto Config' is available

Help pls, Since installing V108 & now with V109 I have a major problem.
When i start MC I get the following message.
Media Center failed to load the specified library. It will revert to the default library.
I hit OK
It then says "Media Center Failed to load any library. this is a critical error, and the program must stop running. Please reinstall the latest version.
I hit OK
I then get a Windows Box which says "Media Core has encountered a rpoblem and needs to close"
The ONLY way I can get into MC is to start and run is to restore one of my old library backup. Reinstalling the latest version does NOT work and just gives the same error.
However this only works for 1 instance. the next time i start my PC and run MC I have to do the same again.
In addition to this when i installed build 106 or 107 I lo0st my registration info, even thought the build was installed over the top. I had to reinstall my .mjr file. Only a minor inconvienience but a bit odd all the same.
Please help as currently I cannot really do much work on my library for fear of loosing things.
Cheers
Graham

you might want to start a new thread.
you also might want to uninstall MC9 and reinstall
or delete the library files and restart MC
-
On my Audigy Platinum EX I hear both tracks in both zones at the same time when I try to play one track to the front speakers (coax digital, Zone 1) and one track to the rear speakers (analogue Zone 6). My C-Media didn't work, since they need to be in 2 channel mode to have digital output. >:(

King I will start a new thread if necessary, however I do not belive i ought to, this is bug that has occured purely as a result of an upgrade to the specified versions. Others may be experiencing it.
I have deleted library files and tried that. to no avail.
However I have not uninstalled MC as each time i do that i loose all of the work i have dojne with Playlists and Smartlists, and I hate having to do it all again.
However if that is the only way????

Another possible bug. The new Email / Send to feature.
Its great and works ......however.......
If I send a file with it to a friend for example MC takes control of itself until the file is sent. ie you can do nothing else with MC until the file has left the "outbox"
I use Outlook 2002. My MJ is latest version. etc
Just thought i would mention it.
However if you send the same file using Outlook insert file you can "obviously" use MC as normal.
Also interestingly when you sent the file from within MC it is quite significantly larger in size (the email that is) than if you send it directly from Outlook.
try it and see
Thanks

I have done as you suggested King, so now I have 2 chances of a resolution?

As Graham noted, sending a file by email from within MC freezes program till it clears the Outbox.
Also: Ripped a CD while MC was playing files. No problems either with playback or encoding (mp3 VBR with plug-in). Closed out when rip finished and tray opened.
After 5 minutes, checked Task Manager, it shows 2 iterations of MC.exe still open, each sucking up about 30K of memory but only one of which is utilizing the CPU. Unsuccessful in attempting to close out one of them through Task Manager.

Is there any way to have the option to "fill properties from filename" added back to the "import media" wizard, as we used to have in previous versions?
I did a search on this and Matt mentioned in the thread for the 9.0.95 release (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=beta;action=display;num=1042234426;start=14#14) that "we removed it from import because it seemed silly to put our tools in the import section". I must say I completely disagree with this logic. From a usability standpoint, having to go through two steps to do a process that could be done in one seems to me like a step backwards. If a tool can be used to enhance a user's experience and seems intuitive, then why should it be silly.
Cheers,
Mikus

Hello,
Since version 9.0.8x, I don't remember exactly which one, the COM Automation Interface doesn't work correctly. This is still the case with version 109 where the following properties of CMJFileAutomation do not work:
Custom1
Custom2
Custom3
Type
Filename (some it works depend on the entry)
Do you have an idea when you plan to fix it ?
Regards
PhDSM

1) I still don't get the ö, é, è etc. Is this just my problem? Because from some other reactions I see that they do not have that problem. I hadn't this problem up til version 0080 or something like that.
Is in Matt's hands by now, though.
2) When sending a mp3 to the Media Editor, I don't get further than the Decoding-box, which doesn't do anything. Was good before version 0080 (or something like that)
3) Slide bars don't work (well) in various playlists. Also: if the slider works, it isn't quick enough. And the up- and down-arrows don't work at all in these playlists.
4) if you want to drag a file within a playlist, the screen runs from the end to the beginning.
I'll try to explain it a bit: if you have, say, 300 files in a playlist and you want to put number 300 to number 80: when you start dragging you're at position number 1 within 1 second. Some quick jerking with the mouse is required to get to the number 80 position
5) Editing the Name-properties of a jpg or mp3 is very slow responsive (correct English?): when typing the letters appear with quite a delay

I've been getting the same thing with this build also! MC just quits by itself and upon reload, the library is messed up.
I have done as you suggested King, so now I have 2 chances of a resolution?

- deleting a file stops current playing now
- media server: the client hangs retrieving the media library ('progress bar' stays empty and 'cancel' buttom has no effect); yes, both parts use the same build

* Broken! Web streaming
This was fixed in 107 but it's broken again in 109.
Streaming MP3 media from http://www.kexp.org/listen/kexp-mp3-96k.pls is broken. It sounds glitchy and scrambled like like a badly encoded mp3.
* Broken! File associations
MC is still losing most, if not all, of its file associations on a regular basis. I constantly have to go into the scheduler and hand-select all the filetypes I want to be handled by MC.
? Fixed! RealAudio
For the first time ever, MC is playing a RA stream.

Can someone confirm: If I try to perform TRACK LOOKUP on YADB for a couple hundred files (or 80 or so), gives a lockup of MC.
It makes it through a couple dozen .. then just says "Submitting info to YADB" (or something like that) and never comes back ...
Also, I *love* the new pulldown lists in the PROPERTIES pane .. but its DRAMATICALLY slowing down my input. When typing a song title .. it comes out E -- X -- T -- R -- E -- M -- E -- L -- Y slowly!

Using Drag and Drop in the left side tree.
If I try to move one album from one type, ex Single artists (uncomplete) to Single artist (complete), I received an "Updating database..." confirmation but nothing was done ?
May I miss something!
