Title: Plays for 5 seconds (no sound) then stops.
Post by: macattack963 on April 06, 2024, 05:16:30 pm
Hi, I"m using linux mint. About 2 months ago I started to have this problem, but am not able to resolve. Bascially, when sending music to my receiver, the song plays (no sound) for exactly 5 seconds then stops. As an experiment, I used spotify on same computer, to send a song to same receiver and it played fine. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

What is the connection?  Same as Spotify?

What is the file type?  Same?

Jim, I set spotify to 320bps and re-tried-it still works. On JRiver re-tried with a 320bps and still stops. On JRiver Im using MP3. ON spotify it's whatver their default is.

It's a desktop computer. I've tried both wired and  wireless, but no difference. I'm not sure what is mean by connection type? Is it wireless vs wired?

Are you using the UPnP or DLNA capabilities of your receiver?  In other words, is it a network connection?

If so, you'd see the receiver under Playing Now as a renderer.  Right click on it and change the settings.  Look for "broken renderer".

I'm using DLNA. Yes, my receiver is listed under Playing Now. I right click, but don't see "broken renderer".  But under DLNA Controller Options, i see some options to disable/ignore for broken renderers. I tried disabling these but made no difference (I had seen this in a different post relating to the same problem)

Reboot and power cycle the receiver.

Receiver specs may appear to support a format, but not support it when you're using a network connection.  You could test an HDMI connection.

Hi Jim, i tried rebooting the receiver, but made no difference. I've been using the same computer & receiver with JRiver for several years. My setup is very simple.  One thing I noticed which is different from what I remembered is that under options->audio->receiver name, there's just a single line saying..Configure Audio using options-> Media Network etc.... Whereas under Player it has many options. BTW the music plays fine under Player.  I guess messing with the options under Player will not affect the receiver playback.

Reboot and power cycle the receiver.
and Mac and all other network devices, including the cable modem.

Hi Jim, I rebooted router and receiver etc, no change. I completely removed and reinstalled meda center and no change. Music still plays for exactly 5 seconds (no sound) and stops. Another piece of information...I ran media center on a PC, and it worked fine.  All computers are set up for DLNA.

Try other audio output settings.

Can you give me an idea of which audio settings to try. One thing I notice is that if I’m playing music from Spotify on my phone to the receiver, and then I start playing a track on media center, then my receiver will stop playing Spotify, ie, media center is definitely sending a handshake(or something) signal to the receiver.

Audio output settings won't help on a DLNA connection.  My mistake.

Are you sure you were using DLNA before?  Maybe a USB or HDMI connection?

Hi Jim, positively sure it’s always been dlna, and my windows pc is Dlna as well. I never use usb or hdm for music. I also tried a lower resolution mp3, 128bps, but it made no difference

What is the output format set to in your DLNA server settings?
