Title: DEBANDING?

Does anyone here actually use Debanding in the settings, if so why would you need it?
I use only BD and HDR rips which I always thought there would be no need for debanding, am I wrong?
I also thought debanding only softens the image and creates a plastic look, is this true?
If debanding is ON and not needed, does it stll soften the image?

Only time I have used it is for 480i DVD rips from what I recall.
