Title: Media Center 9.0.108 beta
Post by: Matt on February 06, 2003, 12:48:18 pm
Media Center 9.0.108 beta is available.

This build has a problem playing multiple files.  Please see below for details.  Don't download except for testing the CD burning fix. -- JimH

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90108.exe

Changes

1. Fixed: File tags weren't getting updated after a file conversion process.
2. NEW: MPC input plugin now included with Media Center.
3. Changed: Updated APE input plugin to use latest APEv2 tagging code.
4. Changed: Tooltip image retrieval now done on tooltip display -- not mouse move. (way more efficient)
5. Changed: Previous and Next no longer automatically start playback.
6. Changed: Added confirmation message when trying to email multiple files that total over 10MB.
7. Fixed: "Export to XML" would report that it failed -- even if it didn't.
8. NEW: Added on screen status messages when Fast Forwarding, Rewinding, or Pausing/Resuming TV.
9. Fixed: Storing of cover art inside of files was not working.
10. NEW: CD burner now supports Philips drives (finally). Possibly other drive types as well.

We're still getting more bugs reported than we can fix each build. Please keep a list of bugs you find, and re-report anything that doesn't get fixed each build.

Thanks for your help and support.

- Left tree collapses on startup

- Uploading a file to my Archos Handheld device crashes MJ

- When sending e.g. 5 mp3's to external tool MP3Gain, it opens 5 times MP3Gain i.s.o. Adding those 5 files to 1 MP3Gain and those 5 MP3Gain instances have all the same file in it.

- When deleting a file with shift from Playing now when a song is playing, the focus of the currently playing song is gone

I was about to post this in .107, but saw and loaded .108 and it does the same thing:

When deleting a file through MC and checking the delete from hard drive box (shift delete), the player stops.

I just downloaded MC 9.0.108 over 9.0.107 and I still can not open MC.  I had posted a couple of messages on the 9.0.107 thread along with my system info when I was able to open MC.

I get an MS message "Media core has encountered a problem and must shut down.

Someone please help me get "Back In The Saddle Again".  Thank you, Joe Karnes

MPC tagging : ok (including cover inside  :)

Also, I "exported to XML", then I opened it within wordpad and I substituted all "custom 2" fields by "keywords". Then I re-imported the XML file.

This way I have been able to copy a field into another field for all db (I requested that a few time ago since there is only one "keywords" field right now).

Thanks !!!

I have a wierd problem with this build....

For some reason, this bulid does not want to play any tracks in order.  It seems to stop between each track for me.  But, it doesn't exactly stop, it seems to very quickly go back and forth between "Buffering...." and "Stopped".  So I don't know what's going on.

Anyways, it will be a slow night for music since I have to start each track manually.  Maybe I'll have to listen to the radio....

Also: MC opens to the library with files sorted in random fashion - not alphabetized either by file name, artist or album. Cannot detect an organizing scheme.

Now opens properly.

Also, component installation dialogue seems to be back in its cave.

Will check media server tomorrow. Works OK locally.

I'm still using 9.0.88, but would like to update now that there is a new MPC plug-in.  In the past, I've had trouble with MJ not retaining Replay Gain info for MPCs when major updates or reinstalls have taken place. In fact, I've had to re-analyze 1500 MPCs four times in the past two months.  Has anybody had this problem with the current MC version and MPC plug-in?

Maybe I missed this in a past build's release notes, but I just noticed the "default art" directory which appears to allow for customization of MC's icons. I'm going to get to work on some new icons and try it out...thank you!

Oh, and my burner and Hairstyle are still having problems. Trying to burn gets:
"Can't start the write."
"Failed: Open session. Invalid field in parameter list."

...and Hairstyle gets:
"Media Center could not find any full screen skins. Please reinstall the latest version of Media Jukebox."

Joe,
You can try deleting the registry keys for MC.  A search here should find you help on that.

If you need more help, start a new thread.

I have the same problem as Dan and michel, player stops after one song in playlist. In task manager, Media Jukebox.exe locks up processor to 99%, closing MC aleviates this, but Media Jukebox remains in taskman and holds all RAM it had when closed. Will not open another instance of MC until MJ.exe is cleaned from process tree.

A very unhappy build, I would say.

Cover art still doesn't seem to be totally there.  MC is now saying that the images are stored in eg C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Data\Cover ArtCast - All Change.jpg Notice the missing "\"  and the file is stored internally anyway.

MC now no longer reports that any files are stored internally...

Adam

UPDATE: After copying the image, removing it and then pasting it back in MC is now reporting the files as stored internally but please say I am not going to have to do that with every file...I's hate to be King Sparta if thats the case ;D

Same here, except it fluctuates between 'buffering' and 'live - 48 kbps', which is definitely not the bitrate for that file..

Any chance of making that 10Mb confirmation configurable as the size people are going to care about is going to vary depending on their connection. :)

As others have reported, playback of multiple files fails.  We'll have another build tomorrow.  This one will probably be pulled later tonight, but it would be nice to have some feedback on the fix for Philips CD drives.

Not sure if this is a bug or not but me and King Sparta think it might be.  I was trying to create a smartlist that would pick a random 60 minutes of rock tunes but would only contain one track per artist the list I used was:
Media Type:[audio] Genre: [Rock] ~t=60 ~nodups=artist
I expected this would do what I wanted however when adding the nodups command it only shows artists that appear  my library once i.e. I only have a single track for them.  Is this how the nodups feature should work or is this a bug and if it is a bug is there anyway to do what I want??  If not could there possibly be in the future?? :):):)  Pretty Please ?  With cherries on??

Ripping and encoding APE files results in speeds approximately 10%-15% lower than usual (9x max vs. 10x-10.5x) and 90%-95% CPU usage.

Also, MC ripped two copies of each track: one as APE, one as 192 kbps mp3!!

Another burn  (tried a data mp3), another coaster--same message as before....

Update:  won't rip/encode now either--this is new; this was working fine.  Hopefully it'l be ok in the next build-- ripping/encoding was working great in the 107 build.

Ok .. all of my files that show Cover Art <inside file> are not working still ... The <APIC> tag is not showing up on these files.  If I create a file with an INSIDE FILE tag now, it works ... but none of my older files are working ..

Quick fix:  Change the <inside file> to save to the cover art directory(external pics) and it extracts just fine .. (except for 11 files ... im still trying to figure out whats up with those)

Just for the halibut, I decided to load .107 back over top of .108 (yea, was feeling daring tonight). Seemed to work out fine, at least it plays continuous files, dbase looks fine, view schemes, all ok...should I be concerned though? Will it start smoldering any second now? :P

Does this only apply to TV Tuner?  If not, it doesn't seem to work for me.  If so, can it be made to apply to all media types?  And finally...

Has there been any success in getting TV Tuner to work better for ATI AIW products?  I continue to get hard Media Core crashes often and always.

I can play single songs without problems.

When in a playlist, and current song is ending and next song is about to start, player window says "buffering" and is blinking, and the next song won't start.

JimH - I have'nt had much time to play with this release, but since you specifically asked about Philips drives, I thought you'd like to know that it seems to be working ok here. I've just burnt one and got it playing from a different source and it sounds ok.
A brief history - burning here was working until somewhere around release 90088 and then stopped. From then on, I kept getting 'cannot start burn because of DAO problem' (can't be more specific than that - sorry). Yesterday, I tried a burn on 90107 in test mode. It seemed ok as I did'nt get an error message but I did'nt have any time to play with it after that.

Hope this helps - best wishes - Jim

INSTALLATION
- message warning of low system resource
- plug-in for handhelds failed
- no sign of pop-up for choice of skins
- no desktop icon
- Jrivers program folder (in Start menu) is empty

VOLUME
- No volume control slider
- Ctrl++ inoperative
- Ctrl+- inoperative
- Ctrl+M inoperative
This was ok up until somewhere around 90088 and then disappeared. I've tried disabling/enabling the sound drivers many times as well as uninstalling/reinstalling MC more times than I care to remember. In trying to remember what was going on at that time, I had a big prob with 90088 which screwed up my library. I tried to go back to a previous version but got an error message concerning, I think, that the db was the wrong size. At about the same time, I installed KingS's chartfinder which necessitated the downloading of the MS Runtime files. Could there be a link here maybe ??

EDIT
- works ok when editing a single file (not via properties)
- painfully (and I really mean painfully) slow if I edit through properties

PLAYING
- playlists stop with a buffering problem after the first track

RIPPING
-    fails with a 'Read track failed. Unknown error = 1' message

1) I still don't get the ö, é, è etc. Is this just my problem? Because from some other reactions I see that they do not have that problem. I hadn't this problem up til version 0080 or something like that.
Is in Matt's hands by now, though.

2) When sending a mp3 to the Media Editor, I don't get further than the Decoding-box, which doesn't do anything. Was good before version 0080 (or something like that)

3) Slide bars don't work (well) in various playlists. Also: if the slider works, it isn't quick enough. And the up- and down-arrows don't work at all in these playlists.

4) if you want to drag a file within a playlist, the screen runs from the end to the beginning.
I'll try to explain it a bit: if you have, say, 300 files in a playlist and you want to put number 300 to number 80: when you start dragging you're at position number 1 within 1 second. Some quick jerking with the mouse is required to get to the number 80 position

5) Editing the Name-properties of a jpg or mp3 is very slow responsive (correct English?): when typing the letters appear with quite a delay

BUG v 9.0.108...

Rear channels are missing (no sound) with 5.1 surround sound only with the TV.

Did not try it, but suggest that DVD playback may also be affected.

I re-installed version 9.0.107 & the rear speakers are now working again with the TV.

Rear channels are ok when playing a ripped file.

Good to hear that it seems to be working on your Philips drive. Let us know if you have problems. The reason things changed after the 9.0.88 release is that we removed the "Goldenhawk" burning engine from Media Center. Now it just has our own burning engine.

JohnT - thanks for the reply and the explanation. Now, if only I could get my volume slider back I'd be a happy bunny !!. Meanwhile, just found another prob...

Didn't fix my problem writing data CDs to my Sony drive.
I still get "Failed: Open session.  Invalid field in parameter list."
I purchased a Sony drive but I couldn't find the "exact" same model, mine is a CRX-175A1 and yours is a CRX-175A. Mine seems to work fine for audio and data burns under both WinXP and Win2000. Perhaps there was a firmware change between the two that is causing a problem.
One thing you can try is to activate the debugging log by setting the following registry value to 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox\CD Writer\Logger

Then restart MC and try a data CD burn with the Sony drive. Then exit MC and email me the file "cdwriter.log" which will be in the Media Center program directory. You can leave "test mode" checked to avoid ruining a CD.

If that doesn't pan out, would you consider swapping drives with me? I could send you the CRX-175A1 and you could send back the CRX-175A (we'd pay shipping). Then hopefully I could fix the problem here and you could either get your original drive back or keep the swapped one.

My Sony drive is an internal unit, I'm assuming yours is as well.

Does this only apply to TV Tuner?  If not, it doesn't seem to work for me.  If so, can it be made to apply to all media types?  And finally...

Has there been any success in getting TV Tuner to work better for ATI AIW products?  I continue to get hard Media Core crashes often and always.

Scott-

It only applies to TV tuner.

I have not been able to identify the problem you are experiencing. My ATI AIW 128 PRO works fine. It is the main device that I use to test TV compenent. Installing DirectX 9 did not cause any problem either.

1.  I still cannot burn a data CD.  I can send a mp3 playlist to my CD burner, everything is queued, and the folders show up in the drive; it works in test mode, but when I burn, it looks like all the files are being copied, but at the end I get a message in the status screen to the effect of "illegal track mode for this media."
How long does it show "closing session" before you get the error message? I made a change that will be in the next build. Please try it to see if it helps your situation.

Well, what happend from start to finish is:
In the status box, I get the writing lead in message, then it appears each individual file is copied to the CD, then I get a message to the effect of writing/closeout session, then immediately after that, I get the "illegal track mode for this media" message in the status box.

I'll try it again when the next version is posted--thanks!!

JohnT,

Can I do/test anything on my PC to help resolve the issue where MC is locking all access to my CD-RW drive after just one burn?  [Obviously, this still an issue with me...I have to restart MC everytime to gain access to my CD drives again.]

This actually refers to 107 but the on-going issue I'd been having with mp3 streaming causing glitches and making it unlistenable has been fixed, apparently.  Now, finally, MC plays everything I need it to!  Just wanted to let you guys know.

I can replicate this problem here in certain circumstances, so I should be able to get it fixed. It's not really related to burning a CD: try starting MC with a CD drive tray open. Then put any audio CD in it and push the tray in. I think you'll see similar behavior.
Title: Cannot Burn - Problem Continues
Post by: Ken Brookings on February 07, 2003, 10:54:09 am
When I select "Start" to burn a CD I get a "Confirm Cancellation  Are you Sure You Want To Cancel The operation in process" message.  Clicking Yes or No results in: Nothing.  No burn.  I reported this bug for .107, it is unchanged in .108.
Thanks
Ken
