I have been fooling around with the windows operating system since circa 1984. Beta tester for many of those years.
Windows 11 is continuing to destroy the file manager. After several years of using jriver I am in awe of its tightly programmed and efficient file and data management.
I humbly suggest that the management team consider launching a general file manager for windows: JRiver File Manager.

I'm sure the developers already have enough on their plate that creating a file explorer program is not in the cards. ;D
That said, I have great news for you. Directory Opus is a file navigator that is perhaps the best software I have ever used. Simply unmatched support with the most useful integrated help files I have ever come across. It is so powerful I can't even begin to adequately describe it. There are many MC users who use this program who will also attest to this fact. I despise having to use MS explorer on my work computer. You will never want to use anything else once you customize Dopus (its nickname) - sounds like you are most the way there on that score anyway. :P
It has a 30 day free trial with all features activated. While it is $90 if you decide to buy it, I have been using Dopus for 15 years now and do not hesitate for even a millisecond to upgrade (at half price) when they offer a new major version (which they do only every three or four years). Do yourself a favor and check it out: https://www.gpsoft.com.au/

I never have issues with File Explorer in Windows 11, if anything it's improved since (finally) landing tab support. I never see most of the issues I've seen some users report and it makes me wonder if they're using tweaked/hacked/modded/"debloated" Windows or apps like ExplorerPatcher. IMO this would be a waste of resources but I guess to each their own? *shrugs*
There's plenty of alternative file managers out there, with Total Commander, Directory Opus and XYplorer coming to mind. In fact I just tried that Files app from the Microsoft Store today and it has some of the worst performance issues, crashes and other bugs. It performs much, much worse than File Explorer does, that's for sure. So the market is crowded enough, again, IMO.

We are still using Windows 10 at my workplace. But still, if Windows Explorer in Windows 11 can accomplish even 5% of what Directory Opus does, I would be shocked. WE is truly a worthless program IMO.
That said, if WE now has a Dual Panes with unlimited tabs for each... I will be thrilled. Unfortunately, our IT department is hyper vigilant when it comes to security (an advanced Nuclear Reactor Design company), and consequently moves at a snails pace when it comes to the OS. I don't expect us to upgrade to WIN11 for another year... at least.

I can't give enough thumbs-up to this.
Great software, great support, unparalleled documentation.
