Title: Solved - Mystery Closed Captions
Post by: davelr on June 04, 2024, 10:11:50 am
I've an odd problem that I don't have a clue hw to solve so I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any ideas.

We cut cable about a year ago and I have an HTPC running JRiver v31 with an older Hauppage 2 tuner card fed by a Hi-VHF UHF antenna to access local OTA channels. We use this setup to record a number of OTA shows mainly late night talk shows such as Kimmel, Colbert and Seth Meyers,

A couple of weeks ago I had to do a channel rescan (we use PercData for schedule info). Ever since then the recording of these shows has been fine except for Seth Meyers. The recordings of this show contain closed captioning which appears to be generated by the network. The "Closed Captioning" option in JRiver is NOT selected and I can find no controls available to shut this off. All other recorded shows do not have closed captioning.

Any thoughts would really be appreciated.

Look at:
1. Tools > Options > Video > Subtitles & Language > set them all to OFF.
2. Tools > Options > Television > Display > Closed Captions > uncheck to box.

And then during playback:
-Using mce IR remote control, press the up arrow button a few times until you see "Subtitles", from there use the Enter/Select button and left/right arrows to choose from the available options. One option should be "Off".

OR
-Using a mouse, right click > Subtitles > Off.

Thanks, settings were fine but for some reason NBC is setting the captions to on. Turning subtitles off fixes it although a minor irritation. Thanks again.
