Title: Server Questions and Comments
Post by: jack wallstreet on May 09, 2024, 10:59:26 am
[Split from Servers and Services (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,138838.0.html) by JimH]

Publishing this list was an excellent idea.  Thank you! (And thank you for the services).

Cool!

Could you put some small definition around each?

Could you also indicate which are necessary for, e.g.

- Playback of media (and which types of media)
- Library management (and what specifically)
- Links to relevant APIs in MCWS that interact with the particular service/function or perhaps bypass it altogether enabling the developer to manage what the service does outside of the service

I am sure I could think of other things, but those at least are of interest to me.

Curious what the motivation was for posting this, are users confused about what they're paying for and why it costs money to maintain / provide JRiver's services over time? I think a lot of people have a hard time wrapping their heads around how many 'components' make up the software experiences they've come to expect.

You answered your own question.  Thanks.

The list isn't exhaustive.

Just figured a little context might be helpful for the list ;)

I'm actually curious, how much traffic do you get to something like your YADB service?

Hello,

Could you please shed some more light on the availability of the "license server" access? Will we no longer be able to activate our older copies in the future?

Cheers,

Mikka

Licensing is not limited, you'll continue to be able to activate any license you own, just some extra functionality might no longer be available.

Perfect! Thanks for such a quick reply and not disabling the old software  ;D

Media Server Access Keys

What does the loss of this actually mean? An existing media server access key will be revoked?

If all of the “JRiver servers” were inaccessible, could i still run Media Center and at a min. browse my library and play audio and video files?

(i know i could just pull the ethernet cable and test…. but is there any periodic contact with JRiver needed to revalidate a license?)

I cannot get JRiver server to work.. I am getting the message about ports and loading MC and Server at the same time...
I cannot figure out how to tell if ports are being shared or whatever....Guess I can do a fresh install??
