Title: does MC33 use the "LAV Splitter" like MC32?
Post by: kgosfm on July 29, 2024, 05:59:22 pm
Because if it does, I won't upgrade. The latest update on 32 basically broke it for me. I had to revert to MC31, and that works fine. What a shame. I've been a loyal user (since MC7), but the new versions are broken.

You might post details about the problem you're having.

LAV Filter's author is a developer for JRiver, so I'd be surprised if it didn't include and use the LAV Splitter portion. Granted, I haven't looked in a good while, but I would assume it does.

You might post details about the problem you're having.

The latest update of 32 started requiring the "LAV Splitter". Whenever I tried to play any video format (mkv, mp4, avi, etc) I get a "downloading required components" screen that eventually times out. "Error downloading components. Check your internet connection and permissions". Video doesn't play. Internet is fine, can't find where to check for what permissions are being blocked.

I even googled it and downloaded and installed LAV Splitter. Restarted my computer (WIN10). Same thing. MC32 just became audio only.  :'(

Went back to MC31, and everything is fine.

Usually that error means a firewall is blocking it from being downloaded. Open the Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security app's settings and create outbound and inbound rules for Media Center 32.exe, JRWeb.exe, JRWorker.exe, etc. and allow the connection for each one over TCP and UDP.

Media Center doesn't use other components installed on the system (LAV Filters, madVR, etc.) it depends on and uses its own meant for use in MC downloaded from JRiver's servers. You're not supposed to try manually installing plugins yourself, they likely won't work well versus the ones meant for use in MC.

I really should create a tutorial for the Windows Firewall stuff at some point.
