Hi everyone,
Been a very long time since I've posted. That's because I haven't had any issues :D until now. We recently moved and while we kept the same internet service something must've changed because I can no longer get my phone to connect to the app. Can anybody suggest what I might need to do? It's been so long since I had to deal with things like access keys. Oh, and actually, maybe it's because I upgraded to MC32 and there's a step I'm missing. Thanks in advance!

Maybe reset the access key? Click on Access Key in MC's Options > Media Network section and there's a reset option. There's also a test option too.

Thanks Awesome Donkey! (#1 on the list of things I never thought I'd type)

Didn't work. Wonder if maybe I should just uninstall the app on my phone and start from scratch.

Is Media Server running? You can test it from the same machine.

Sorry. I'm not following.

I reset and received a new access key but I still keep getting the same error message...
-
Sounds like it's being blocked by a firewall or something.

I tried that. Didn't help. I ran a test and this is the message I got back.

I removed your screenshot with the Access Key. Best to keep it private.

Did you click on the link?
-
I did from this computer and it didn't take me anywhere. Says Hmmm... page can't be reached. Or did you mean from the laptop where I have JRiver installed?
-
On the same machine where MC is running as the server.

Yes Media Server is running... It brought up my complete collection and I could click on bands and albums. I clicked on a song and it played it. While still playing what was running through JRiver as well. Not sure what Media Server is actually.

Media Server is what allows apps like JRemote to connect and playback media. It's built-in MC and requires Media Network to be enabled (and nothing like a firewall blocking it, or else you'll have issues connecting).

So what does the fact that it's running mean in terms of why I can't seem to connect JRemote to JRiver?
-
It really sounds like something like a firewall is blocking it somewhere in your network.
Or... you're trying to access MC through JRemote over mobile data (when they need to be same network together). It means both the computer running MC and the device running JRemote has to be on the same network together. If you're trying to access via mobile data you'll have to forward some ports on your network router.
Or you're using a VPN or Apple's iCloud Private Relay which will cause issues when using MC and remote apps like JRemote.

Of those three options only firewall is possible. And that would mean firewall on the laptop, right? Not the phone?

Firewall on the router is another possibility and would be the first place to check. Try forwarding port 52199 and see what happens.

How do I do that?

Your modem manufacturer should tell you how to do port forwarding.

I've heard of port forwarding and had to do it for an online baseball sim league I was in but I never had to do that before with JRiver. I do have a new and "improved" router so maybe that is the issue. My modem is provided by comcast.

If you're using a new router than the one you used before when JRemote connecting was working, then the new router is very likely the cause here.
