I've just purchased MC33 for Mac and when I double click the installer I get this prompt. An old forum post suggested uninstalling the old version (in this case MC32) and reinstalling then trying again. Doesn't work. What do I do?
-
This build?

That's the version of MC32 I have. I just paid for this one, which is causing problems:

In the first post I meant to type "(in this case MC32)"
-
You probably need that specific build. MC32.0.58. Earlier builds can't use an MC33 license.
-
MC32.0.58 is what I've got
-
Then use the MC33 license you purchased. I just re-sent it.
-
I must be doing something wrong. I pasted the registration code for MC33 (from the list you just sent me) into the License Restore Page. Then tried to install it from downloads. Got the same prompt -- "Your license file is for a different product"
I also clicked on the temporary install key you sent in a subsequent email. Same thing.
-
Make sure you're using 32.0.58 or else it may not work.
-
Could you give me more detail on what you mean by "using" please? I have that version installed. is there something more I should be doing?
-
Do you have any other versions of Media Center installed? Because as long as you're using MC 32.0.58 it should accept the MC33 license.
-
I do have MC26 installed, but I also have MC 32.0.58
-
That could be why. Open MC32 and when it prompts for a license copy and paste the registration key and hopefully that should work.
Sometimes when multiple versions of MC are installed issues (which are rare but can happen due to OS shenanigans) when trying to use a .mjr license can happen (e.g. it tries to license the old version hence the different product message). By opening MC32 and copying/pasting the registration when it asks for it, it avoids that issue.
-
Thank you. When I open MC32 it doesn't give me a prompt for a license copy. Any way round this?
-
In the help menu there's should be a register or registration menu item.
-
No this is what I can see
-
Click on registration info. It may already be registered.
-
No it's a blank form
-
Click on Registration Info.
-
OK I clicked on Registration Info again, then Reset and Restore License, then pasted the Registration Code for MC33 into the field. I got a prompt saying it was successful. Not really knowing what to do, I closed MC32 and tried to launch MC32 from downloads again -- same prompt as before (Your license file is for a different product). I then tried double clicking on the latest Temporary Install Key you emailed me and downloading that -- again, the same prompt (Your license file is for a different product)

You're not trying to launch Media Center 32 from the mounted .dmg file that's in the Downloads folder, right? You're supposed to drag and drop Media Center 32 from the mounted .dmg into the Applications folder then launch Media Center 32 from the Applications folder (and unmount the mounted .dmg file via right click on the mounted Media Center 32 'drive' on the desktop.

Apple's site explains how to install programs.

MC32? I didn't follow that step, but just did what you described above (with MC32), then tried to launch MC33 from the downloads folder again -- same prompt as before

The dmg download is the Install file, not the program. Read about installing on Mac. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,137894.0.html
