Title: Media Network when external Internet access is down
Post by: dmitch77 on August 13, 2024, 09:11:01 pm
My house's Internet connection went down yesterday, it'll be down for a week. I have MC on three different Macs all running MC 32.0.58. My WiFi router is handling internal traffic just fine - all Macs can connect via file sharing and screen sharing; JRemote can connect to all three MC instances. Macs are varying vintage, running macOS 12, 13, and 14.

The problem is that the MC instances can't connect to each other. No MC can load (or even see) the others' libraries. No MC can use another MC as a "playing to" destination (the options aren't even visible). All of this worked fine before my Internet went down.

Is there a reason why Internet access is needed in order for MC instances to talk to each other? Is there any workaround?

Thanks.

Internet is needed for access keys because that's what makes it work so easily and without issue. Instead of using access keys you can use the direct local IP address of the server MC is running on. Probably a good idea to make sure the server always has the same local IP address either using address reservation on the router for the server or manually forcing an IP address for the server.
