Could there be a way to have alternating background colors per line in the library view of MC? iTunes does this for separating each line and is more elegant than grid lines. The first line could remain white and the second line could be a faint gray or blue (or customizable via skin) and alternate like that throughout the list.

Good idea.
I find the current grid lines to be of little use & actually visually distracting. For that reason I have turned them off.

Make it customizable so you can select the number of lines you want to be the same color.

I dont like gridlines - alternate coloured rows sounds like an interesting solution. But one problem Ive had for ages is that when I drag a song up and down in the playlist MC doesnt draw a horizontal line to show me where its going to move it to. Im sure MJ7.2 or something used to - is it just me?

It's not you, I noticed that 'bug'/lack of feature too.
Was going to request it but forgot.
You have my vote for alternating colours too. It'd just make the screen so much prettier :)

all this will also slow down the Grid List Drawing.
i like the idea however.

Suggestion:
- This could be taken one step further to match Tag&Rename, Helium2 etc - they colour code lines depending on attributes of the files - poor quality = pink, missing id3v2 tag=blue etc :)
Helps to at a glance tell all kinds of info about the files.
