Hi, I’m a very happy long term user of MC, now running MC 32 on linux mint 21 Xfce. Audio only for replay of bit perfect FLAC files on a purpose built fan less ‘HiFi’ Player (Usual Audiophile bollocks, separate linear power supplies for the drives and cpu, cables made from unobtainium and rolled on the thighs of virgins at midnight on a full moon!) I connect to my DAC, (DENAFRIPS Pontus 12.1) via USB. (Output setting: [ALSA] DENAFRIPS USB v3.12. Direct hardware device without any conversions)
I need to re install on a new ssd as the old one craped out. Noticed that in the latest version of mint, 22 default sound server switched to Pipewire from ALSA, I can see from previous posts that there have been some issues with pipewire, Maybe things have settled down now, I don’t know. My question is, do I go with mint 22 & pipewire or stick with mint 21.3 & ALSA? Appreciate your views
Thanks

Pipewire and ALSA coexist, and you can use hardware direct playback options in MC even when pipewire is installed. So I'd try it with the new audio stack and just make sure you're using a hardware direct output.

Yeah, having PipeWire doesn't matter as long as you select the ALSA output that bypasses the system mixer and you're off to the races again.

OK, thanks for your help, I'll give the latest version of mint a go
Cheers
