Just upgraded from MC30 to 33, and neither version will play. Error: Playback could not be started on the output 'Core Audio' using the format '48 kHz 2ch'. Haven't used 30 for a while. Computer is M2 iMac with Sequoia 15.1. All other audio is fine.

In MC's audio device settings turn off integer mode and exclusive mode. With those off you are using the least demanding settings.
-
Thanks. They're already off.

Playing to the default core audio device which is??

External headphones
-
How are the headphones connected?
-
External speakers are plugged into the headphone jack. And they work fine for all other apps (Spotify, Apple Music, etc).
-
perhaps this can be of use:
currently M1 Sequoia 15.0.1, Mac Mini
upgraded from MC32 to MC 33 before upgrading Mac OS to 15 and then 15.0.1
playing to headphones output connected to speakers.
No problems whatsoever.
Upgrade path on M2 perhaps?

Turn on logging in MC (Help->Logging)
Attach a log.
Audio device open is extensively logged.

I have exactly the same problem, which started when I upgraded to MacOS 15.1 (M3 Max MacBook).
-
Please turn on logging and attach a log. As I said, audio device opening is logged extensively.

On my M1 Mac mini on 15.1 there are no issues.
Playing 44.1k ALAC to core audio with exclusive and integer mode unchecked and buffering set to default in MC's Audio settings.
At any rate the log will be useful. It's also possible the M2/M3 regressed the HDMI output back to 48k only. You may try change that in DSP studio output format.

Playback now works. I carefully went through the permissions to make certain that Media Center was authorized where required and made some corrections. I suspect that was my problem.

Still can't play. What Mac settings did you change?

Did you turn logging on? There are no logs here, only system info.
-
I did, but here's another try.

You are trying to play 4 channel audio to the internal speakers using the output format of Dolby Digital?
Not likely to work. Dolby digital is for external amps that support AC3 encoding.
You need to setup your DSP studio for the correct output format for the device you are trying to play to.
If you have multiple output devices (as most of us have) setup separate zones for each output device.

I assume last post failed I will try again
1st attachment is permissions
The 2nd should be screen showing selected audio device. Q80A, which HDMI, connected via Yamaha receiver, which I have been using for multi been using for mu8ltichannel playback for years with MC
-
This is the exact same equipment that has played multichannel audio using MC It has even played the same file, before I tried to re-import files to fix other files.
I've had to mute the receiver because of the time, but that is not the problem.
I am giving up for the night and will read replies tomorrow.
