Title: Using multiple genres
Post by: shAf on October 21, 2024, 09:04:06 am
Is anyone aware of an Android media player app that acknowledges JRiver’s implementation for separating multiple genres within the “Genre” tag?

I'm not sure what you mean by "acknowledges".  MO 4Media, JRemote2, and BubbleUPnP app all display MC's semi-colon separated genre list in their information display for each track.

For the first two apps, getting them to list albums or tracks by genre depends on the view definition in MC "Options > Media Network > Advanced > Customize views for JRemote, Gizmo, & Panel..."  I have not experimented with genre, but based on my other views I would expect a genre-based display to work for them.  Bubble has a built-in display list of albums by MC genre.

Thanks for your response… I do use JRemote for connecting with MC when I am at home, and it works like it should for parsing the genre tag. However, when away, I’m wanting the same thing for when my Android DAP is asked to play local files…

Poweramp is a great Android app for playing files stored locally on a phone's Micro SD card or its internal storage.  It has a Genres display which groups albums per MC's genre tag and then alphabetically by album artist within each genre.  Bubble can also play from SD card or internal storage, but seems limited to listing albums alphabetically by artist in this case.
