Title: Mac Mini HTPC - how to play Atmos & DTS X movies with JRiver
Post by: jeffhenning on October 26, 2024, 04:20:24 pm
I’m rebuilding my theater system and want to avoid using a pre/pro or a disc player.

The system initially:

• Mac Mini
• MiniDSP FlexHTx processor
• DIY active mains & surrounds, Rythmik subs (5.2, eventually 7.2.4, all speaker DSP done in software)
• Apple Mainstage for hosting AU DSP plugins (or something like it) for speaker crossovers, upmixing, EQ, etc.

Ideally, using JRiver as the media player.

I assume that JRiver has everything to decode regular Dolby & DTS as well as their lossless codecs.

What about Atmos & DTS X? Can JRiver decode them?

Thanks

You have to bitstream Atmos and DTS in order to play them back, otherwise you'd likely have to do a conversion.
