Hi all,
I'm running JRiver on a container on my QNAP TS-453A, which I 'send' to my Oppo 105D. I use it for wav, aiff, and DSD files (5.1).
I'm finding that the sound 'drops out' randomly. Sometimes a track/album can play fine. Other times it plays with gaps. It is very frustrating.
I don't have similar problems when I send the sound to my Yamaha receiver. It only handles 2.0 files.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to determine the cause of the problem? Is it the aged NAS (over 8 years old), the Oppo (also getting old), the network connection, or something else?
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Regards,
Andrew

Are the problem files all bigger files? DSD is much bigger. Bandwidth could be limiting.

Thank you for your response Jim.
I thought that could be the cause.
The problem happens with files of all types and sizes.
The Oppo is connected to the network by Ethernet.
I can’t rule out a network issue as in my previous house I didn’t have this problem.
I will investigate this.
Any suggestions on how to test? Plug a laptop into the Ethernet and do a speed test? Or something else?

This is embarrassing. 8)
Seems that the cause was a defective CAT6 cable. I should have done the 'simple' troubleshooting before posting.
It is now replaced, and things seem to be working well.
