Media Center 9.0.103 beta is available.
Many things will crash and not work. If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.

Changes
1. Fixed: Data CD's were failing at end of burn on Sanyo and Smart&Friendly burners.
2. Fixed: Some CD burn operations appeared to hang at the end, even though the burn worked ok.
3. Fixed: After burning a CD, the contents would not be accessible until Media Center was restarted.
4. Fixed: The progress bar did not show 100% when CD burning was complete.
5. Fixed: When burning an audio CD, the "analyze files" dialog popped up even if replay gain wasn't selected.
6. Fixed: After doing the replay gain analysis for CD burning, the burning process didn't start up automatically.
7. Changed: Informative text added to replay gain analysis dialog for CD burning.

9. Fixed: CD burn dialog not updated on initial selection of files to burn.
10. Changed: Added restore button bitmap to 'Z' skin.

12. NEW: Added ~dup and ~nodup search keywords -- allowing people to easily find duplicate songs.
13. NEW: Added new "Auto Smartlist" showing the use of ~dup. (erase Auto Smartlists (music) and restart to have it be created)
14. Fixed: Skinned scrollbars would not work in some system dialogs.
15. Fixed: Multiple zones would cause mouse cursor to not hide in full screen.
16. Fixed: YADB would not work with foreign characters properly.

Fixed: When Mega-Me windows is Maximized the "Maximize" button in the right upper corner DOES NOT change to "restore" button.
1) MC9 still caches every song I ever played or burned in the Media Library. It would be nice to at least have an option to disable it: After playing a stream from an internet radiostation I have entries for the first song in the list as well as one entry for each time I was redirected to another server. Also all the songs from a CD I don't even have anymore.
2)Clicking a ***.rm link downloads the file instead of streaming it. If I cut and paste the link in to "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.
3)Clicking on a ***.ram link does nothing. Again, if I cut and paste it into "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.
BOTH file types are registered under MC9 in IE Folder options.
4) Noise, with Replay Gain enabled, in songs that are recorded at HIGHER volume than playlist average. Clip protection is enabled. Restarting the song usually eliminates the problem.
4)If you check the remember volume setting option; MC9 does not reset it back to pre-MC9 level when the program is closed.
5)The Playlist scrol bar does not scroll in Min-Me skins

6) While the scroll bars in the mega-me main window are fixed the scroll bars under options dialog box are still erratic.

the Dup feature!!!
-
~nodup - SO COOL!
-
Bugs:
1. Still has trouble reading the ID3V2 tags when importing media:
a. A song with the title, "Concerto for Orchestra: I. Introduzione: Andante non troppo; Al" placed the filename in the Name field instead of using the title in the tag. It did this for the other songs on this album. Title for all other albums read correctly.
b. When reading artist, if TPE2 contains data, artist is filled with data in TPE2. If TPE2 is blank, then artist is filled with data in TPE1. You should be consistent. Artist should always correspond to data in TPE1.
2. Editing file properties: If I edit and save any file property for a mp3 file which contains cover art inside file. The cover art stays in the file, But MC9 changes its reference from "inside file" to "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Cover Art\..."
Request (again)
a. Add database fields for TPE2 (Band/Orchestra) and TPE3 (conductor/performer refinement)
-
For the ~dup and ~nodup stuff, use brackets around the field names like ~dup=[track #],[name]
We'll add it to the wizard menu next build.
This thread has more details:
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=beta;action=display;num=1043332834
Also, plugin developers can now leverage this search capability (like any other search capability) in their own plugins.
-
I don't know if this intentional, but if you double click on an item the entire playlist/tree node is no longer copied to 'playing now'.
-
11. Changed: Page Up / Page Down scrolls through selected files when pressed from file property panes.
Very Cool!!! But, can we get one more ehancement...when you are focused on the File Properties (any field), can we get it so that Page Up / Page Down scrolls and retains the input foces where it was originally (so fixing every name in a album doesn't require hitting [Tab] 4...ah, make that 5 times after every scroll).
Also, can we get [Alt-Enter] to always move the focus to the Track Info (File Properties) window even if the Track Info pane is docked (to the right-edge of MC)? Currently, there is no way using only the keyboard to move to the Track Info pane (if docked). Or, make tab move from Org Tree to Content View to Track Info (if docked and visible). Or, both...

Just downloaded ver. 103, realizing that there are a lot of problems of late, I'm going to ask that you refer to the post I made earlier today, about the MP3 encoder plugin. To refresh, in ver. 101 ANY file decoded and then re encoded using the mp3 encoder plugin, will have an extemely bad popping sound, at the beginning of the song. It doesn't matter what bit rate you re encode in as it does it at any bit rate. Just to let you guys know, it's still doing it in ver.103 could you take a look at it?

- Burning data CDs now functions - thanks.
- Memory leaks from 98 and 100 now gone (apparent conflict with IE 6 was freezing everything - XP Home)
- Type words in Media Library dialogue, then setting cursor highlights all entered data, can't modify/add without deleting what's there - still there.
Getting close.
HTH
-
Scroll bars now appear in dialogs like open media but the drag/scroll behaviour is still a bit funky. To drag and scroll to the end of the dialog you actually have to drag the mouse outside the dialog almost to the end of the screen.

Dupe/Nodup rocks!
A small bug though: In Auto Smartlist (music), the dupfinder probably shouldn't show all media files, but Audio only? It's an easy fix, but I thought you'd want to know anyway :)
Cheers!

Import bug:
When importing mp3 files, the track# tag rewrites from 01 to 1...and no way to automatically add 0x :-/
-
- Media Center is named Media Jukebox in Task Manager - Processes
- Shift-Deleting a file in Playing Now reorders the list after the current sorting order
Before:
9 Delerium Enchanted
5 Delerium Silence
1 Depeche Mode Somebody
After:
1 Delerium Enchanted
2 Delerium Silence
3 Depeche Mode Somebody
- Shift-Deleting a file in Playing Now causes the sound to hang after the current playing song. The player
pane shows Media Center 9.0 and "buffering..."
-
- Wheel-scrolling in any list doesn't use system settings. Instead it always scroll 1 line at a time (my system setting is 3 lines to speed things up), causing scrolling through long lists a minor pain..:)
-
Double click behavior is still not working properly. Only the highlighted selection is sent to Playing Now instead of the entire list.
-
Windows ME:
yadb appears to be working!!
Still can't customize toolbar, or delete from harddrive using MC 9 library---get the dreaded "Unicows" error.
Overall, great progress the past couple of days!!
-
- Exporting a playlist to m3u uses playlist.m3u as name in stead of the playlist name
- Playing a stream web station, MC adds a playlist and imports the stream as a file.
- Left tree collapses on startup
- Uploading more than 100 files to my Handheld device gives an error at the end "error opening file" and not all files are uploaded then
- When sending e.g. 5 mp3's to external tool MP3Gain, it opens 5 times MP3Gain i.s.o. Adding those 5 files to 1 MP3Gain and those 5 MP3Gain instances have all the same file in it.
- When deleting a file with shift from Playing now when a song is playing, the focus of the currently playing song is gone
-
5. Fixed: When burning an audio CD, the "analyze files" dialog popped up even if replay gain wasn't selected.
YES...cross-fade only audio burns works now!!
3. Fixed: After burning a CD, the contents would not be accessible until Media Center was restarted.
Sorry...still saw this problem (after a CD-RW erase failure where I just continued the audio CD burn (w/o manually ejected the CD-RW first)...I did not restart MC after the erase failure though...see Bugs below). Also, just burned a data CD with success, ejected, reinserted and MC can NOT recognize it (Windows Explorer can't see it either)...stopped and restarted MC and now MC and Windows Explorer can see it just fine.
Bugs...continuing CD Burner wooes:
1. MC can never complete a CD-RW erase successfully. Either get an error message box or MC just crashes (disappears). If you hit Ok to error message box, eject the CD-RW manually and attempt the burn...MC locks up Win2k Pro completely and requires a manual reboot!!
2. Attempting a CD burn containing a track that is currently playing does not work for data burns...you get a 'Can't open file' error box. With audio burns, you can burn the currently playing track without error.
3. The tab order on the CD burning dialog is completely wacked (wrong).
4. In general, I think someone needs to spend a few days testing CD-RW media burns (erasing, burning, erasing, burning, erasing...audio & data burns) until it works cleanly and doesn't require restarting MC or rebooting after every burn.

Bugs:
1. In Playlists (not Playing Now), if you select files in any playlist and press [Delete]...the selection highlight does not disappear and the files that scroll up and replace the deleted tracks are automatically selected...very confusing (UI bug).
2. If you edit column properties (change the Display field) in Track & View Settings, MC reverts the column settings (order, width, and enabled) to MC defaults...argh!!
3. The tab order is wrong on many of the Options screens...General, Tree & View Settings, Device Settings and CD Writer Settings.
4. The tab order is wrong on the Plug-In Manager dialog.
5. The tab order is wrong on the Skin Manager dialog.
6. The Portable Device plug-in does NOT work with MC. If you attempt to use it to upload to a device (USB-connected CF-card reader), MC crashes everytime. Also, the 'over available memory limit' warning pops up way too much during queue building/management...once while you are building a queue list is enough (reset on each upload).

Has the CD Text "Various Artist" artist name bug been fixed yet or is that scheduled for another build?

Not many bug reports so far with .103, so I decided it was time to upgrade to post unicode MC. No disappointment. Two of my three problems with MC seems to be solved and I have not encountered any new. :)
I can burn again on my Dell 8200 laptop.
The exotic characters (æ ø å) works fine.
There is still a problem with tags after conversion from APE to mp3VBR (which is the only conversion I do).
If any of the boxes in "Converter settings" is checked ("Update MJ(!) database" & "Send original file to Recycle Bin"), the tags will not survive a delete/reimport.
Keeping the boxes unchecked and deleting the original ape files manually after conversion and finally importing the new vbr files works fine.

I have just burned six audio CDs from MP3 playlist with three of them being by a single artist for each CD and three of them being by different artist on each CD. The three comprised of single artist for each CD list the correct name of the artist. The three comprised of different artist on each CD list the name of the artist as Various. Is this the way it is supposed to work or am I doing something wrong?
I am also having a problem with assorted noises when I first open MC and play a CD or any MP3 track from my media library. This noise problem will continue until I stop and restart play of any selection, then it will clear up and sound good. Thank you for any answers. Joe Karnes

BUG: TV Mode
My ATI AIW 8500DV running catalyst 3.0 drivers, media center9 103 and directx9 can tune channels fine and select 1 channel fine from the channels window but any channel after that i get a message that pops up 4 times saying "failed to play TV (unknown error)"
then a message saying something about the last file not found.
if i change channels via the right click, channels option it will not give me any errors but will only show static and noise on channels that i know to work?

[shadow=black,down,300]Bugs[/shadow][/list]
- Mouse over on frame buttons (min, max, close, restore) do not work.
- Mouse down on restore button while maximied shows mouse down for maximized instead of restore.
- Mouse down for Continuous & Shuffle show Mouse down for their counterpart (On/Off) and vice versa. Same for Play & Pause.
- "Importing & Tagging" in General Options is extended way too much unlike the other group box texts.
- Left border for tabs isn't showing properly. If the Right tab is active, the first image for the tabs is overlapping the left border instead of the left border on top. Also, in the skin selection, the left border is underneath the window. Maybe moving the left border over a few pixels to the left would fix everything.
- Vertical scrollbar in options covers part of the right border of the box around the place bar when moved.
- When maximized and using a small height for the top frame border, it will clip the caption buttons when using a high offset for y. If you don't use "6" for y, then the other buttons (not those of MC) are not aligned. It thinks the titlebar is taller, thus the clipping for all the icons.
- ape/apl files show as incomplete for album type (ape image file).
- resuming from hibernation stalls mc if file was previously playing.
- renaming a database field, ie: duration, all default columns are displayed and column order is reset. duration still shows in column selection menu. column name doesn't show until a refresh.
- clearing media library removes the auto smartlists until restarting mc. it also removes custom made smartlists.
- playlist (.pls) doesn't show automatically when opening while playlist tree is expanded like "media library'.
- drop target changes automatically when opening a .pls file (after auto-creating the playlist). (unsure if it's a bug or not)
- playlist (.pls) shows imported library icon when opening. "import into library" shows on right-click menu in "playing now".
- dragging and dropping a playlist in the playlist tree does not update if another tree component is selected (ie: media library). have to first select the playlist, release, then move.
- exporting playlists with invalid file name characters result in no file being created. ie: RadioStorm: 80s
- opening playlists (.pls) always appends a [1] to the end.
- font change doesn't automatically update in search window, playlist bar, & file properties.
- buttons for property bar do not automatically resize when changing font size.
- fonts for windowed file properties bar and file properties doesn't get updated until a close/reopen/F5 (refresh).
- refreshing (F5) windowed properties gets hidden by main program.
- large fonts clip in player window, search wizard, playlist bar, drop target & column headers. (y,p,g,etc)
- view scheme group properties isn't using the same font for "Display Name" as it does for "Search Criteria"
- file properties has no horizontal scroll bar.
- windows' colors scheme change doesn't update playlist bar (refresh).
- control bar does not use the same font as the file property bar.
- columns (auto resize) doesn't update when changing fonts.
- columns in statistics are not remembered when switching views.
- view filter could hide files in a limited search (~t, ~s, etc.). one hour of music could only show 10mins.
- view filter shows nothing when a 'show only' playlist is deleted. revert back to all files.
- search wizard is unable to add a playlist group. playlist="group" works manually.
- buttons for control & property bars does not use xp style buttons (skins disabled).
- remaining_time counts up for live http streams in visualizations.
- "name" is not updated in visualizations/track info for live streams when id3 info is available.
- renaming a library name from library manager says library already exists or goes back to previous with inline editing. (inline editing doesn't function like it used too)
- favorites could point to invalid items when using different libraries.
- inline editing multiple files (up/down) doesn't update "file properties" window.
- "delete file(s) from hard drive doesn't give an error message" for read-only files.
- "remove tags from files" (mp3) says successful on read-only files.
- undo doesn't undo deleted files from database.
- importing video files freezes mc, no way to cancel. tries to steal focus from other apps.
- error box doesn't show all files when number of files is bigger than the box (non-scrollable).
- starting mc with an invalid library, stalls mc. critical error: failed to open the database file 'playlistx.jmd' for saving. (a file could be read-only or corrupt). doesn't exist, path invalid (unc path, unable to recreate directory).
- adding "auto smartlist (music)" to a playlist view scheme is not showing correct items for smartlists with limited identifiers. (refreshing again)
- mc will not create thumbnails when using a unc library path and the thumbnails directory doesn't exist. (full access). creating directory manually works.
- "locate file, on disk (inside media jukebox)" freezes for unc files. also note the media jukebox reference.
- "auto smartlists (music) / top hits - 100 most played" shows files that were never played. (numberplays=>0)
- hairstyle retains focus, unable to use other windows (dual monitors).
- find & replace for filenames causes error if the file was moved already.
- choosing a directory (browse for folder) keeps refreshing from the top and then it goes to whereever it's supposed too with skinning on with each click.
- viewing an image (right-click, show), it always goes to full screen mode even if windowed mode is activated (jump on play set to none).
- viewing an image (right-click, play), the control bar shows n/a for file names.
- thumbnails do not show in correct order from the list shown when switching views.
- full screen is always on top. other full screen programs allow windows to be put on top of it (ie: remote desktop). dual monitor setup.

Play list bug:
Exporting playlist works but dialogue box needs fine tuning.
Opening export the default file type is html and default name is playlist.html.
Changing file name is fine but then if different file type is selected name defaults to playist.html.
Importing playlist seems to work as when run a secons time it fails to find new files but the playlists aren't available within MC.
Library back-up works fine except that it names the file as MJ Libray Back up. Should be MC library back up.
.103 is for me the best build yet. Keep up the good work.

Bug:
Tried to add an Album Art from <IMAGE> Properties. Under TOOLS, ADD, the window pops up and ask for the filename. The Window does not have a scollbar for directories with many folders.
Please solve this.
Some potential bug:
I use Create Extigy with a HP Pavilion, and a USB 2.0 card. It was working very well. Lately, I get alot of hiccups when I play the songs. Sometimes I need to play it a few times before it disappears (restart it).
I tried using the PLAYBACK options to set the buffer, which promises to stop hiccups. It does not appear to work, although, it does take longer during a song change.
Also, I'm using Multi-zone now, not sure if that adds processing problem. But the hiccups occurs even when 1 zone is being used.

Yes it does..
look at the folder with an Up arrow, push it this will take you out of that folder and you can can continue to the root folder if you wish.
this is microsoft's Comon dialog box and can be used to go any place once you know this option is there.

It's looking really, really good. I haven't posted a bug in a while...but here goes. Hope these make sense and aren't total repeats.
Bug: Download Manager crashes when attempting to download entire album when download manager is already open and in the middle of downloading an album. (essentially, i can select one album to download, but trying to add more to it while it's open causes it to crash)
Bug: Ripping causes blue screen of death regardless of what cd setting i have (used to work on only aspi, but now not at all...and has been like this for as long as I can remember in MC 9. worked in MJ 8 with aspi...)
Bug: Importing files erases current database and adds only what's found....particularly when operation is interrupted. you can stop it after only, say, 50 files, and you'll end up with only 50 files in the media library even though you had many thousand before beginning the search.

The fields Custom1, Custom2 and Custom3 remain inaccessible for read or write through IMJFileAutomation in 9.0.103. They have not worked since (at least) 9.0.088, but they work as-documented in MJ8.
You may want to note something posted in a new topic that is not widely read:
MC9 wants to have Plug-ins set up their Registry info in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE from our DllRegisterServer() routine. Unless MC9 prepares the user environment with sufficient privilege to create keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE prior to calling DllRegisterServer()... only users with Admin privilege will be able to install Plug-ins.
This also means that all users of MC9 on one machine will get the same Plug-in set.
It seems that the MC8 conventions of HKEY_CURRENT_USER were more flexible and circumvented the Administrator Privilege issues.
This is true for NT, 2000 and XP.

Tried to add the WMA encoder plug-in, both by downloading and by selecting from the Plug-Ins folder, and it doesn't show up in Plug-In Manager, and I can't rip in WMA format. All my files are WMAs, so this bothers me.

1. From the main menu "Tools" choice, "M" is chosen as the hot-key for Media Editor, Media Server and Plug-in Manager. Skins Manager has no assigned hot-key.
2. The traditional Playlist icon is one pixel too far left, and one pixel too high, relative to all other Playlist-oriented icons:
In the left panel the "one pixel too far left" is noticeable compared to the Smartlists above it. In the right panel, the "one pixel too high" can be seen when comparing the spacing of the entries' icons. The "too far left" is also seen here relative to Playlist Groups and Recently Imported.

I'm afraid my two bugs from previous beta's are still hanging around.
1) Analyzer always analyes to 100%. I've tested this by re analyzing some tracks that were below 100% and now they are coming out at 100%. Unless of course previous versions were wrong and now it's right.
2)Jpeg rotation is not working.

same here, and i did notice that this morning when i hit the wrong button.
-
- New: If "External Encoder" is selected for either a rip or convert, the advanced info dialog always pops up unasked for when the encoder dialog opens.
- Fixed: Burn space status bar is incorrect on first look. Have to refresh to get it right.
- Data CD writes fail with "Can't start the write.", "Failed: Open session. Invalid field in parameter list"
- "Decode files directly to CD" is both on the main CD writer settings page and the settings sub-page but the checkboxes aren't synchronized.
- Now that you can get past the "Invalid Media Server Information" message box when searching for media servers, I still get multiple duplicate replies from the server if either the server or client have multiple network interfaces.
- When the media server responds to a search, it responds with the first interface it's bound to even if that interface isn't reachable by the client that issued the search request. My server has 2 interfaces, one private, one public. My laptop is on the public network. I issue a search from the laptop and the server responds with the name and ip address of the private interface which the laptop can never reach. Combined with the previous problem, I can get 4 responses for the private interface, all useless.
- If the client actually gets only 1 response, it tries to connect immediately. It should problably give you an option to see the response and confirm that you want to connect to it.
- If you cancel out of the list box with the responses you get a "failed to connect" message and you get dumped into the default library instead of the library you were originally connected to.
- Crossfade settings are ignored during an audio burn.
- Column widths aren't saving again. You have to drag the column separator twice to get the first change to stick.
- When "Decode directly to CD" is unchecked, and you burn more than 1 CD, the raw temp file is deleted and recreated for each CD instead of using the one created at the start of the first burn.
- In "File Naming and Location" you can't enter paths with leading or trailing periods. I.E. If I try to enter a path for track images like "m:\.coverart" the period gets stripped out as soon as I move the cursor out of the entry field. Any valid file system path should be allowed.
- Can't turn off tooltips for the drop target and player controls.
- MP3 Encoder settings are broken again. If you select "custom" and press advanced, you get the quality selection dialog instead of the custom command line dialog.
- Analyze audio during rip doesn't do anything.
- When collapsing "Auto Smartlists (audio)" after selecting one of the random or favorite lists, the app hangs for about 10 seconds while spinning the cpu at 100%. (maybe not a "problem", but it's still a pain)
- Ripping in digital secure mode hangs near the end of the last audio track if there is also a data track on the cd. Have to cancel, wait for everything to release, then rip the last track in digital large buffer mode.

Automatically Import files is not working here.
I've not seen this posted as a bug b4, so, if it's working for everyone else, what might be broken @ my end?
Auto import is not working on my end either.
Other Bugs:
1. Volume slider is gone
2. mpeg video files are being sorted under audio, not video
Other stuff:
1. Is it possible to sort the images by folders on the hard drive instead of assigning artists and albulms? Maybe have the Albulms auto assigned by the folder in which the images are stored. This would be useful because I sort and organize all my digital camera pics into titled folders.

I can't reproduce this problem. I took several mp3 files which were 128kbps and ran them through the converter tool selecting 160kpbs as output. Maybe you could email one of your files to check out here.
Thanks,
John T.

When I set MC 9 to NOT use digital playback, it won't change tracks on the CD automatically. I either have to change tracks manually or rip the entire CD onto my PC and play the tracks as MP3s. When set to digital it can't play the CD at all (the only odd thing about that being that MJ 7 always seemed able to default/adjust insuch a way that I didn't have to manually turn off or on the digital playback, depending on the specs of the PC I was using). Does MC no longer support continuous CD playback when not in digital? What's the deal?
Also -- in a somewhat related issue -- with my home PC (my following specs relate to my work PC) I use different profiles with different usernames and passwords (Windows 98). I had to install and verify MJ in every single profile in order to get it to work (understandable, but it almost makes using the free version of the program easier in a way, but whatever), and then everything worked great until I updated to MC 9 beta . . . now it says that "no playback engine is available" in some (but not all) of the profiles. I'm hoping that the latest MC 9 won't have this problem, or that an across-the-board re-install will fix the issue . . . . but I thought I should note it here since MC's ability to play my CDs, on both my work and home computers, is getting very very iffy.
This doesn't deal directly with the latest Beta ('cause I haven't got it yet), but I neglected to note the problem earlier and I haven't seen it elsewhere. I didn't have the issue with MJ 7, but MJ 8 and all the versions of MJ/MC 9 I've tried thus far have had it, so I'm assuming I'll still have the problem with the latest Beta. If not, and the problem has already been noted or solved, then my apologies for this note and my thanks for attending to the issue.

1) Sort Keyword does not work in file list, list syle view
2) If different sort options are used in a view scheme group and view scheme, the sort option in the view scheme should have priority over the whole group, it is opposite now.
3) Non ASCII characters are sorted in correctly, i.e. Ö should be just before or after O
4) Filters:
(( ~sort=Artist )) (mediatype=[audio] ~sort=name)
and
(~sort=Artist) (mediatype=[audio] ~sort=name)
create different results. The first one generates less results. That one is created automatically, if I enter
mediatype=[audio] ~sort=name
to a view scheme group and
~sort=Artist
to a sub view scheme

As of this build (103) I'm having problems with mp3 playback skipping. I thought perhaps my source files were corrupt, but after checking via WinAmp, everything seems fine. I tried playing with the buffer, maxing it out at 5 seconds doesn't seem to help.
Have this issue with wave out & directsound.
Can't get ASIO to work at all - complains that Creative ASIO cannot work with files of 44.1 khz.
SoundCard: Soundblaster Audigy
Also - in the middle of a playlist, playback halted for no apparent reason. Program didn't exhibit any other odd behaviour (hang/crash) afterwards.

Media Center 9.103 bugs
- When in Cover Art View Audio Analysis is selected the window with songs is transparent and empty
- When an album title contains special characters no cover art can be found
- Audio analysis defaults to peak level 100%
- Always take control check box on file associations is working the wrong way around
- Cover Art View of albums is sorted by the name of the artist of the first track instead of Album Artist. Extremely irritating for compilation albums
Media Center 9.103 improvements
- Please create the option to link cover art manually

Strangely in my case Ö is at the very end, even in View Scheme Nodes.
I conclude that all Ös are not the same. In fact, I am even not sure that people read Ö, when I write Ö. In fact, the only thing I am sure is that I exists.

I updated this morning from .88 to 103/47. Thanks for getting Composer to transfer to the iPod. However, now when I try to rip a CD, I get the message, "Failed to update file ....", after each CD track. I have rebooted, but still get the message. I have also noticed that MC9 will no longer play a CD. Any help would be appreciated.

Please add AT LEAST the library printing features of MJ (right click explorer tree=> Statistics=> print Artist/Album)
Much better would be a more robust report printing/exporting feature. With the huge number of mdeia files we all have, this is a basic requirement :-)
I had to buy MJ 8 just to do this.
Thanks

Depends on the language/locale. In Swedish the alphabet ends in XYZÅÄÖ (X, Y, Z, A-with-ring, A-with-two-dots, O-with-two-dots).
-
I just recalled regarding the above that I got a buffer overrun while installing .103, above. But the program looked normal otherwise, so I tried to use it. Again, any help would be appreciated.
-
I didn't know that we could start posting the old bugs again.
-No volume control slider.
-No Auto test for sound in Recorder.
-No conversion to MP3 ... even if starting from a WAV file.
-No exit from failed conversion routine. Must completely exit MC9. That is actually an improvement ... I used to have to restart the computer from a power-off shutdown.
Squeak!

-No volume control slider.
It's almost certain to be a sound card issue. One or more of the others may be the same. Please open a new thread.

I can't reproduce this problem. I took several mp3 files which were 128kbps and ran them through the converter tool selecting 160kpbs as output. Maybe you could email one of your files to check out here.
Thanks,

John T, try to take a 128 kbs file decode it, the re encode using the mp3 encoder to 320kbs, this should re produce what I'm talking about. If not, then I'll zip two files that I've done together and email them to you.
-
FYI. Big memory issues with 103 and Win98SE. I have to quit MC9 if I want to avoid low memory messages.
Can't post my config as right now MC9 won't load due to above I suspect and I'm only running AOL and Netscape.

Whether it works or not, that's not a good thing to do. You will lose quality, not gain it.

9. Was'nt there an option to change the burn software in settings? It does'nt show here any more.
JimH - you suggested that the volume slider problem is due to a soundcard prob and to start a separate thread. We've already done that. We've all tried reinstalling etc the soundcard/drivers etc etc to no avail. It seems a common problem to Win98 and the people who contributed to the separate thread seem to think it's a JRiver prob. My slider disappeared somewhere around 90088 or thereabouts. I can't think it's a soundcard prob - the facts don't support that line of thinking.

OK. Don't worry about me anymore. Uninstalling and reinstalling got by the buffer overrun problem, and after a few more gyrations, everything seems to be alright that I need to do. :)

I am having a problem encoding mp3 VBR files. When I pick custom quality I do not get a text box when I press advanced, instead I get the same quality drop down menu.

Some bugs from here too:
1) I still don't get the ö, é, è etc. Is this just my problem? Because from some other reactions I see that they do not have that problem. I hadn't this problem up til version 0080 or something like that.
2) When sending a mp3 to the Media Editor, I don't get further than the Decoding-box, which doesn't do anything. Was good before version 0080 (or something like that)
3) Slide bars don't work (well) in various playlists. Also: if the slider works, it isn't quick enough
-
Sorry, another bug more:
4) if you want to drag a file within a playlist, the screen runs from the end to the beginning.
I'll try to explain it a bit: if you have, say, 300 files in a playlist and you want to put number 300 to number 80: when you start dragging you're at position number 1 within 1 second. Some quick jerking with the mouse is required to get to the number 80 position.

5. Ctrl++ inoperative
6. Ctrl+- inoperative
I have this problem too. Actually, using Ctrl+- on the num pad works... but Ctrl++ does not.... and neither work using the + or - on the main keyboard.
It noticed it in 9.0.100 as well....except that none of the four combos worked. Maybe they will all work in 3 more builds. ;D

After installing Win2K on a blank drive, an old guy was back: "CD-Writer not recognized".
It was working before, but I used a newer version (101). Since the old installation was still there, I used the old CDWriter.ocx (Vers. 1.0.0.37) to replace the newer one (1.0.0.45) and the Writer showed up! What's wrong?
Now, I upgraded to XP, but still the same problems. I know, it was working on previous versions of 9.x.
Anyone has an idea?

3) Slide bars don't work (well) in various playlists. Also: if the slider works, it isn't quick enough
In playlists:
In my system you can use the scroll dot thing to scroll with or click the scroll region to scroll slowly, but the vertical arrow icons at either end don't work. also my scroll wheel isn't doing anything. Horizontal icons work.
When dragging the dot thing down the scroll bar it stops about one dots size above where I have the cursor. When dragging up it stops with the top of the bar at the base of the cursor.
When dragging the dot if you release the mouse button before the dot has reached the location of the cursor it stops where it was when you released, not where the mouse was when you released, and where I want to be.
resultant position of dragging down and holding button down until dot stops

EDIT: Same in Analyze Audio dialog, My Computer, Playing now.
In playing now with 43 files I cannot get to the top of bottom of the list of items because the scrollbar won't go there. Same in all other areas

Down

The only option is to select the files, and use the arrows, pgup/pgdn to get around.

Webtree: exactly the same things as I experience! I couldn't describe it better
-
On top of all the other bugs I've reported in past versions that still exist (I haven't gone through and confirmed each and every one - but I haven't seen anything in the change logs to indicate they've been addressed) this version also crashes on me a lot. By crashing, I mean, the music will suddenly go into a neverending stutter loop, the whole PC will freeze, or this morning Media Core generated one of those Send \ Don't Send messages (just from clicking Stop on my remote) and I noticed MC wasn't being drawn correctly. It was all black with white lines.
-
I've encountered the stuttering endless loop in MC since .88, and recently in .103 (though not as often in each upgrade). At times of MC crashes, this 1/4 second loop will continue until reboot. Since I use a rather unconventionl (professional DAW level) audio card, I used to think it could be driver issues, but I have seen others report this as well now. I'm a little glad to see it's not my card, but it is a bug in MC that I suppose needs attention at some point. Thanks...
-
This crash-thing happens to me exactly the same way when I use my (also professional) AudioWerk 8 soundcard.
With a normal, simple soundcard no problems.
Pity, though.
-
Before installing MC 9.0.103 I noticed that I still had a Media Jukebox folder which contained all the data files whereas they should have been migrated into the new Media Center folder. Anyway, after setting MC9's library option to look into the new, proper Media Center data folder and reimporting the tracks, all of the tracks that had entries in Playlists had their track names changed to the track's filename (ie, instead of just Trackname they became Artist - Album - # - Trackname). I had to individually select them and do a Properties > Rename from filename.
Note that I had this exact same problem when first moving from MJ8 to one of the first MC9 betas. I do not think a simple removal of tracks from the lib and re-importing them causes the problem, but maybe a whole new install where the Playlists get re-imported, too(?).
-
Auto import is not working on my end either.
Other Bugs:
1. Volume slider is gone
2. mpeg video files are being sorted under audio, not video
I find that ALL video is sorted as audio....
-
I just had the stuttering happen to me on my work PC running 9.0.102. I can't confirm, but it seemed to be related to the visualizations. As soon as I changed the display plugin to None, the playback problems went away. I know that I am also using the visualizations at home as well.
