As stated, I am trying to get off of USB so my different music servers can share the same set of files. I moved from USB to a Ugreen NAS (DXP-2800). I went through the external media menu setup and after several tries (using these threads as resources) I finally got a successful connection. Now I am stuck importing files.
a) I cannot ‘browse’ anything on the NAS, this is how I mapped the drive when using USB. Is this normal?
b) when I enter a share/folder blindly (type it in the folder entry box) the import runs but 0 files get imported.
It turns out my NAS requires login and password (which I successfully got through during the external media menu setup. Any idea how to get files ingested? Ideas already coveted, the Id is whitelisted on the NAS, the router has port 52199 open, FTP and other sharing services have been enabled on the NAS, my Windows laptop can see the files on the NAS after it was mapped, and my Roon system can see the files and has ingested them, getting very frustrated here…
Thanks for any help.

All external shares are mounted under /mnt as the directory name you used when setting up the share.
To import or auto import from there you need to go into MC's import function and add the /mnt/sharename
