Title: Question for JimH, Matt, or anyone else at JRiver
Post by: nila on January 16, 2003, 09:55:21 am
Hey :)
Ok - I'm trying to create new database fields.
Great feature by the way - LOVE it as it lets me give MJ a lot of the organisation tools I need.

You have different edit types but I cant work out what they're good for. Like there's one that's: Clear only.
Well I've created a database field called: New Song and I'd love it to be clear only so it started with an initial value and then could be cleared so it basically wasn't a new song.
But I cant see any way to set initial values.
Or ways to set values to be auto incremented, or to change depending on X event etc etc.

Is this possible yet or is this still a work in progress?

What's the point of a 'Clear Only' or 'Non Editable' value if we cant set it to begin with and we cant make it change depending on any particular event.
It basically just permenantly remains empty.

Please clarify this for me.

Thanks :)

I've changed the title because no one's answering and it's a perfectly reasonable, useful question for me and everyone else

Also, in 9.0.88, creating or modifying a field in Tools/Options/Tree & View Settings causes the Track List to revert to the default columns.

Nila,
Matt's moving this week and I don't know the answer.  This may need to wait until release before it's documented.

Ah ok,
Thanks for the reply.

YOu guys all going to go have a big old house painting party then?

In case your not aware of what that is, that's when he 'mysteriously' invites you all over for dinner in the next few days, way before the house should be anywhere near ready, you arrive and he hands you brushes to 'work up an appetite'.

They're always good fun :)

I'll bet the "clear only" type is for fields that might be set by an external tool or plug in.   Sort of like Replay Gain.  You have to run the tool to set it and the only thing you can do from the user interface is clear it.

Of course, I'm not sure exactly HOW you'd get a tool or plug-in to set it.

Hey Matt,
I hope the house moving went ok.

Any answer to this question? :)
