Here's a Friday afternoon discussion:
A few weeks ago, JimH was struggling with the strategic direction of a Media PC and got lots of feedback.
I have spent some time researching and the common thread that I see is everyone (PC makers, TV makers, Sony, Microsoft, et. al) aspire to be the "hub" of the total digital media experience...but there doesn't seem to be a single solution yet.
I'm not sure what has happened to that Moxi box from last year's CES, but it seemed to be the closest thing to the concept I'm trying to articulate: a central server that records/stores digital TV, photos, movies, music, accesses the web and provides firewall services and streaming to multiple stations of any content.
Where can...does...will MC play into the home network (of next year)?

the same place Microsoft will be no where
due to the lack of good hardware and CPU speed.
most people are not going to drop $5,000 on a computer that can do all this when they can buy a $300 Color 19Inch TV and a $98 VCR

Good point, but the Moxi box was supposed to have been in the $400 - $450 range, which is within reach. Interestingly enough, it was running linux, even though Paul Allen is a major investor.
I guess I'll stick to the TVs and do the music and photos with MC @ $35.
