Hello everyone,
I recently purchased two licenses for JRiver 33/34. However, I wasn't aware that these licenses would not work for version 31 anymore. Right now, I need licenses for version 31 because I’m running JRiver for customers on an OpenWRT system via Docker. Unfortunately, the version of OpenWRT I'm using, 23.05.5 r24106-10cc5fcd00, doesn't work with the latest MC33 version. I get the following error message:
"failed to register layer: lsetxattr security.capability /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer1.0/gstreamer-1.0/gst-ptp-helper: operation not supported."
At the moment, I can't upgrade to the latest OpenWRT version. I’m not sure if that would fix the issue.
Does anyone know what this error means?
Could I downgrade my purchased licenses to MC31? That would be sufficient for me.
Thanks for your help!
Best Marcel

If you do a search of the forums, that has come up a few times before. However, it's not possible to buy or obtain licenses of older versions of Media Center that are no longer being sold, only the version currently being sold (which is MC34).

I apologize... I couldn't find anything quickly through my search. Oh, but this is a big problem for me right now—I sold my media server to a customer, and they're picking it up tomorrow, but I still need a license for it. Is there really no other way, like buying old licenses? I'm in deep trouble :-) Thanks for any ideas to solve my problem.
Best,
Marcel from Switzerland

Assuming your root is ext4 you need the KERNEL_EXT4_FS_POSIX_ACL and CONFIG_KERNEL_EXT4_FS_SECURITY kernel config options enabled during build since dockerd requires ACLs. These are enabled by default in 24.10. Any reason you can't upgrade? There aren't really any breaking networking changes in this release like in the past (DSA). I can build a custom 23.05.5 image for you, I develop openwrtbuilder (https://git.bryanroessler.com/bryan/openwrtbuilder/src/dev) that makes this trivial.

The only license available now is MC34.

Dear Bryan,
Thank you for your quick response and your offer of support. It's great to hear that you're also working with OpenWRT.
The issue is that all our customers are connected to our portal via an OpenWRT-based router. Our OpenWRT setup also runs additional packages, and we need to test everything thoroughly before rolling out version 24.10. We create our own image because we require additional packages and customizations. Our media servers are also based on the same system as our routers/firewalls and are registered with our portal for updates and support purposes.
If the MC31 had worked with a new license, we would have had more time :)
Anyway, I’m relieved to hear that JRiver is working again with version 24.10. At least we now have 30 days (JRiver trial) to create a new image. If we encounter any issues, I’ll be happy to take you up on your offer. Thanks again!
Best regards,
Marcel
