Title: how to copy Genre info from duplicate files?
Post by: baldo on March 13, 2025, 02:52:48 pm
Here is an odd issue.

I have a load of files, lets say in folder 1, where these files have the Genre tag populated.

I have another load of identical or similar files (atrist, Track name etc) say in folder 2,  and these do not have the Genre tag populated.

How can I copy the Genre tags from the files in folder 1 to the Genre tag for those files in folder 2?

I really dont want to manually adjust  each one.

Many thanks

select files from folder 1 in MC and copy with control+c then select files in identical order in folder2 and paste with control+shift+v and check genre from tag list

Thanks Lepa,

I don't think that this will work because I would still have to manually select the files in the correct order.  What I need is some kind of look up table or array whereby the parameters from folder 1, Artist, Album, (maybe track name) Genre would be the reference. And then we would look to match Artist, Album (maybe Track Name) and populate the Genre field.

At the moment the Genre filed in folder 2 is empty.

Hope that makes sense.
