Title: Problem loading library
Post by: wchan on March 18, 2025, 06:42:37 pm
Hi, I have been using JRiver Media Center for years. My last update was version 29, which worked fine (despite small hiccups now and then) until a couple days ago, when suddenly I got a message that my library could be loaded. I tried to restore my backup library, and when that failed, tried to clear the library and start afresh, but that only brought me back to the same error message. Since it has been quite a few years since I last updated the application, I decided to buy a new license for MC34. I erased the old application files, downloaded and installed the new application using the new license, but I still get exactly the same error message as before, whatever I tried. Can anyone help with sorting this out? Thanks in advance.

What changed on your computer?

I don't recall any notable changes in my computer. I was still using MC29 a couple days ago.

I just don't understand why I couldn't even clear the library and start anew. The error message said MC "failed to load any library" and asked that I reinstall the latest version, which I did  but still got the same message. How can I clean the slate and reinstall MC?

What type and age of Mac are you using and what OS is running on it?

Mac Studio M1, just updated yesterday to Sequoia 15.3.2. The problem occurred both before and after the OS update.

Try switching off any AI that the you or the OS may have turned on because that stuff is a Memory Hog on anything that doesn't have an M4 chip.

I haven't been using any AI application. I don't think it's a memory problem, as I never had the problem running MC29 concurrently  with other apps that I use regularly.

Check MC's app permissions.

Not sure what other permissions are needed - there are threads in the forum with that info.

Permissions needed are listed here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,139479.0.html

I got the error message as soon as I tried to start MC29/MC33. The application did not even load. I checked files and folders under privacy and security in System Settings. MC33 does not even show up, so there is no access to permit.

If the permissions aren't present, that's probably why it's erroring out. At least in MC33 it *should* prompt for them.

I tried installing MC33 again just now. Same problem. What to do?

2. Permissions issues with the app:
Check app permissions:
If you're trying to open an app and get a "you don't have permission" error, you might need to adjust the permissions for the app or the folder it's in.
Select the app, then press Command-I to open the "Get Info" window.
Expand the "Sharing & Permissions" section.
Click the pop-up menu next to your user name to see the permissions settings.
Unlock the permissions (if necessary) by entering your administrator password.
Change the permissions as needed (e.g., to Read & Write).
