Title: Import is not working well after restored Library from Windows
Post by: JensWoermer on March 27, 2025, 04:02:06 am
I have my music files stored on a Ugreen DXP8800Pro NAS and have organized them with many details in a library using the Windows version of MC33.
I backed up the library.
Now, I have installed MC33 on my Mac Mini and restored the library. After replacing the path from “//DXP8800/Musik” with “/Volumes/Musik,” I had full access to my music, and all the information was there.

The problem arises when importing new music:
When I import folders from the NAS, every song suddenly appears twice in the library, and in the file view, the path of the newly imported folder is shown as \Volumes. It seems that the import process still uses the Windows-style path notation.

The whole situation looks like the attached image.
The "newly" imported music files are unusable because they are missing the tags from the library.

What do I need to do to ensure that importing files works correctly on Mac as well?

You need to edit the platform.jmd in the library folder to change it from "[Platform]=Windows" to "[Platform]=Linux". I think there's also "[Platform]=Apple" for MacOS, but I'm not sure. You can create an empty library on the MacOS and see what that file says.

Not sure why MC doesn't do this automatically when importing a backup into a different platform, or even just ignore this file... it's known to cause problems.

[Platform]=Mac is the one for Macs.

My solution has always been to get windows to save everything to tags before creating the library back up; use that backup to restore the library on the mac and then immediately delete all the tracks/files MC knows about and then use a Manual Import to bring the tracks/files into the MC Library. Yes I know I'm losing some stats like play count but that doesn't bother me since those tracks were never played on the mac.

We're talking about this.

Thanks a lot to everybody. The Plattform at my Mac Mini is called Apple. I saw that, when creating a new, empty library. My Problem ist solved :)
