Title: Network Problems [Samba, Intel]
Post by: Manfred on April 08, 2025, 03:57:41 am
Yesterday some of my network shares were gone. All Private Network. That means:

1. not visible on the network anymore
2. Name was not anymore in the settings
3. User Rights in the settings were gone

So I repaired it in the mean time (assigning names, User rights, remove - add network shares, reboot Rooter and all other network gear).

I have not changed anything on the network over the last months.

The only thing was happend some times is that on my Workstation the intel 2.5 Gb Adapter switches to 100 MB and one has to reboot or put the power plug of the workstation to get it back to work.
The other tink I have is mixed Win10/11 environment. The problems occur on the Win 11 Workstation.

Any idea?

Could be policy changes on Win11 24H2 ?

Speed dropping to 100 may be a problem with cabling/switch/ethernet card. Normally just unplugging the cable for a few seconds and then plugging it back in will cause the link to renegotiate, no need for a reboot.

Thanks zybex!

The 100Mb is a well known Problem of  Intel(R) Ethernet Controller (3) I225-V:

Is that true?

It’s pretty simple: Win 24H2 now requires that Samba / SMB shared folders on your local network have a username and password.

I currently don't have that.

Yes by default, but can be undone with registry/policy changes.

That NIC issue sucks :/
