I'm sometimes getting a significant delay at times (about 5-7 secs) when starting playback of audio files in MC. The delay can be 5 seconds or a little more. It isn't all the time, and i've noticed it's most prominent when I'm moving from one album to another. When moving through an album (in folders on my external HDD), it's fine, no delay. Filetype doesn't seem to matter. Got a pretty new M4 Mini Mac, playing off a 3.5" HDD drive, which has never been a problem. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance - Stork

Using version 33.

If it happens when moving files from/to the drive the media is stored on, it kinda sounds like a bottleneck of some sorts. Is any options like memory playback enabled?

Thanks, Awesome Donkey. I'm not moving files, like copying them or dragging them to playlists. What I mean is, i'll get the lag when starting a track, but then clicking on another track within the same album, there's no lag. The lag is very inconsistent and hard to ascribe to anything in particular. Like i mentioned, if i start a track from a different album, it might happen, it might not. Under Memory Playback in settings, I've got "No memory playback" checked.

Drive going to sleep?

Oh, I might have an idea what's going on here. It's probably rebuilding thumbnails in the background due to the change in MC34 requiring them to be rebuilt (they'll be in better quality once rebuilt!).
With the thumbnail change in the newest MC34 build I have MC34 for Mac rebuilding thumbnails right now and I too am experiencing random playback issues like it stopping and starting and delay in starting playback of the next song, so it's probably related to that. And if you previously built the thumbnails in MC33 or whatever (or it's the first time) it'll has to rebuild them regardless, so that could be it.
You can see the status of it rebuilding thumbnails by going to the Help menu then System Info... and look under the Processing section, it should list the percentage of thumbnails built and how many left to go.

Hi Jim H. - no I don't think the drive's going to sleep. I don't hear it cranking back up, at least.
Awesome D: I should add that I'm currently going through my whole library, adding album art (thumbnails) to any that are missing, which is a fair amount of them. I'm not adding them automatically. I just tested to see if it's lagging BECAUSE I might be adding thumbnails while playing back, but it seems unrelated.
I will check the System Info later when I get a chance. fyi: I'm using 33 (trial version - I will purchase brfore the trial period ends - you can be sure!!) and I haven't updated to 34.
