Title: ideal MC hardware and software platforms
Post by: boxer on May 01, 2025, 09:39:21 am
Hey folks,

I love using MC and I'm running an instance of MC32 on my fully maxed out classic Mac Pro. My primary use for this computer is to run MC as a server. However, I gotta say, the app doesn't run smooth: laggy movements, frequent crashes, menus stopping to work, a lot of it could be characterized as unstable.

I'm also running OSX 10.4.6 (mojave). I am considering getting an NAS with a newer, much lighter, Mac Mini.

What's everyone else's experience?

What's the ideal hardware / software combo to run MC as a server?

Can you update the OS?

You could try MC34.  We've fixed some crashes with malformed files.

I use a Windows 11 NUC with a QNAP NAS for my MC server and the experience has been great. Just make sure your network is fast enough to handle everything without running into network-related bottlenecks (and use ethernet for everything if possible), so that's my main bit of advice.

That's the thing. For this computer, I'm kind of maxxed out at OS Mojave 10.14.6

You would think that with 2 x 3.46ghz 60core xeon and 64gb of ddr3 ram would be enough but super unstable.

Will MC34 run on this OS?

MC34's minimum Mac requirement is 10.13 so it should.
