I am getting dropped frames when watching 4k movies on both MC33 and MC34. I had been clinging to my high end plasma from years and finally upgraded to an oled lg c4. I have a gaming and HTPC I use connected to it with JRiver MC. Right now I am running an AMD 7800x3d and a 3060ti. I thought that should be enough for 4k for the quality setting in JRVR but I am getting a lot of dropped frames. I find it really noticeable on the OLED as the motion handling is a significant downgrade compared to my old plasma. I have read some posts here so I set power management to maximum performance in the NVIDIA control panel and turned on Vsync. Is there something I am doing wrong that is causing this that I am missing?

You are always going to get a few drops at the start of playback, or at least I've never been able to not make that happen. Once you reset the stats (Ctrl+R), do you get anymore dropped frames?
Do you have the ability to run everything at 120hz? That gives JRVR more options to pick the right frame and I find gives me rock solid smooth playback.
You may also want to play with toggling hardware acceleration on and off under MC > Options > Video to see if that helps as well.
The OLED vs Plasma issue has nothing to do with JRiver. OLED because of its instantaneous response time will always show more stutter when panning. You may want to turn on the motion features in the OLED including interpolation and BFI if you have it to see if that helps.
The thing that helps me the most is setting the OLED backlight to 50 percent when in a dark room or at night and that significantly reduces the impact of the stutter and reduces overall eye strain. I have a LG C1 and while definitely not the brightest during the day, it's actually too bright for me at night. haha.

Thanks JimH, I had switched to madVR for a while and I wasn't getting dropped frames but I was now getting presentation errors at about the same rate. I wonder if JRVR just shows them as dropped frames. The presentation error issues in madVR led me to a solution of disabling Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows settings. That plus adding JRiver to the nvidia app and setting Vsync to on seems to have fixed the in JRVR now.
Datdude, Yeah the Plasma vs oled thing was because I notice issues with motion on the OLED much more than on the plasma. Dropped frames would even be manageable to an extent on the plasma but with the oled they are very distracting. I played with BFI but I found the flicker bothered me. Eye strain is something I am trying to reduce for sure. I have been playing with calibration and setting and I will probably continue for the next few weeks until I find something that is comfortable for me.

I'd also consider getting a backlight and setting it to 6500k (if it's a smart light). That helps to further reduce eye strain and makes the irregularities like near black flashing and stutter much less noticeable with certain content.
