Title: Album and Date Fields Incorrect for some Photos
Post by: GaryG45 on May 22, 2025, 12:48:30 pm
I'm using MC 34.0.24 with Windows 11, and I recently imported 4 photos without applying any tags. The album field for 2 of the photos had the correct format, which was mm/dd/yyyy from the Date Time Original and Date Time fields from Lightroom.  For the other two images, the Album field only contained the year and MC’s Date field only had the year.  Both photos on disk had correct Date Time Created fields.  I tried to update the library from tags, but nothing changed.  I found one thing in common with the Date Time Original and Date Time fields for both problem photos.  One photo had Date Time fields of 01/01/1980 00:00:01 and the other had 01/01/1974 00:00:01.  I deleted one photo from MC, changed the date and time in Lightroom, and reimported the photo.  Then the Album and Date fields were correct in MC.  I deleted the photo and changed the date time to 1/1/1980 00:00:01 and on reimport the MC Album and Date fields only had the year, 1980.  Is there a problem calculating the Date and Album fields when the month and day are 01?

This is by design in MC to allow display of multiple variants - full datetime, only date, or only year. Eg, for movies and albums you often want it to show only the year, so 1980 is represented internally as 01/01/1980 00:00:00. The downside is that any new-year's photo at exactly midnight will display only the year.

02/03/1980 13:24:12  - shown as is, full date/timestamp
02/03/1980 13:24:00  - shown as 02/03/1980 13:24, seconds suppressed
02/03/1980 00:00:00  - shown as 02/03/1980, timestamp suppressed
01/01/1980 00:00:00  - shown as 1980, date and time suppressed
01/01/1980 00:00:02  - shown as is, full date/timestamp

You can create calculated fields to force display as a full timestamp, like so:
formatDate([Date Time Original,0],MM//dd//yyyy HH:mm:ss)

Thank you very much for the explanation Zybex. I didn't think it was a bug, but sometimes you never know.

I don't think I'm going to leave the Album field with the format mm/dd/yyyy, but in case I wanted to manipulate it, I wanted consistency in the field.  Last night I thought that I might be able to define the Album field during import of the photos. I'm also going to check Lightroom to see how many photos I have that have a Date Time of 01/01/yyyy 00:00:00, and change the time.

Thanks again for your quick response.
