Title: Changing zones and knowing where you are
Post by: Mastiff on January 08, 2003, 01:50:01 am
I have (with help from Matt of JRiver and RonB (Girder author)) found a way to change zones and knowing where you are with Ben/WickedEwok's NetRemote. Briefly I use send key with ctrl+~ (this was what had me confused for such a long time since I need to use "ø" on a norwegian keyboard) to change zone, the "Get caption" function in Girder to get the title of the MC window (where the zone is displayed), a script in Girder to remove "Media Center" and the () so only the name of the zone is left, and finally Internet Event Client to send the result to NetRemote. Another button only checks the sone and sends the result. I have also tied an action to the "home" CCF, so when I press MC to get to the MC frame I get the zone the moment it opens. If anybody's interested, I can export the groups and the CCF. Finally I own a full featured multi-zone system that works reliably!  ;D

That is, except for one bug: If you change to a zone where there are no songs in "Playing now" MC will crash with the same C++ message that crippled an earlier build (maybe 0.87 or something).  :'(

But all in all, when I remember to have something in Playing now in all zones it works without a hitch! So thanks, MC gang, RonB and Ben/WickedEwok! This is only getting better and better! 8)

For those who want to know more about this, here's the thread that announced multi-zone playback support in MC 9:

I would be very interested in the Girder file as well as maybe some simple how-to to get this going.  I plan on using a standard remote along with Glissando and mainlobby.  Thanks! ;D

I was going to do that yesterday, but sometimes life and work can get in the way of more important things, like MC and HTPC. Why didn't I win the state lottery?! Anyway, I will do this during the weekend, with a GML file, a CCF panel and a short text file which will explain the prosedure.  8)

Tor:
I'm looking forward to seeing your file, as I have just gotten NetRemote and Girder up and running with my Slinke and with the serial control plugins.

Multizone is part of my "holy grail" of HTPC uses . . .

If you post here, can you also post on AVSForum?  I don't usually check as often.

Regards,
Ken

Hi!
I have posted the CCF and GML files I use for changing zones in MC9 and playback via NetRemote on the AVS Forum, the NetRemote thread:http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1737041#post1737041 (since I could not find a way to attach a zip-file to my post here, only images). This is built on the Marantz version, so make sure you use the correct skin for NetRemote. This is simple stuff, since I'm a simple soul, but it might help somebody. It will instantly show the zone you're when you get to the MC9 page if you use the button that's in my Home CCF page for your Home page (it has a command in addition to the jump), and you can change zones with the "Zone" button and check the zone with the "Zone?" button. Remember to read the readme.txt. Good luck!  8)
