Title: Can't down load encoders etc
Post by: smonard on December 09, 2002, 03:15:45 pm
Hi I can't download MP3 encoders or YABD info etc.
I keep getting failed to connect to server messages. I have the v9 software. It worked fine at work with my Windows 2000 prof but at home with XP prof it wont work. I have disabled all firewalls etc. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. Does it think I have MJ basic not the PLUS version? :'(
How would I know?
I've been trashing about for several days with this.

Make sure you have a current version of MJ.  Please copy your system info from help and paste it here.

There is a newer version in the first message here, but that may not be the problem.

Are you using IE?

If so, you could try uninstalling firewalls, virus checkers, etc.  Don't just disable them.

I'm using zone alarm as a firewall, I uninstalled it but that made no difference. So I reinstalled it. It fails to connect to anything when in media player, it cant look for updates, get plugins or contact YADB. The same message, "failed to connect to server"
Internet exporer works fine for everything else.
I am connected with a cable modem.
Why do you ask an I using IE

>> Why do you ask an I using IE
because if you were not using IE it may not work when trying to download and install plugins.

Could you try the version 9.0.88 that's in the first thread on this board?

We made a lot of changes in the way we read and write the registry and we've continued to find and fix bugs.

If it isn't successful, please report full details.

Still doen't work :-[
It doesn't seem to be able to connect to anything while in Media player. I assume it is using IE to connect, how do I check that? IE works fine for browsing etc.
I have uninstalled Zone Alarm, didn't make any difference. When I try to check for updates, download encoders etc. When I try to download encoders it first says failed to connect to server, then failed to download install package, then invalid package file cannot continue then http://musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj/plugins/enc_mp3.mip, I OK that and it comes up with "The MP3 encoder is not installed on this system. Do you want to download and install it now?" Yes or no etc.
Is it not using IE or are my security settings wrong?
I getting fed up up with this

:D :D
I fixed it, it was using MS proxy server, unchecked that box and it now works great. Zone alarm also blocked downloads so I have to disable that.

Where is this MS proxy bit located?
I seem to have the same problem with "failed to connect to server" in MC 9.0.88.
It used to work in the beginning, but in the past week I have not been able to connect to YADB or any other server (for downloading plugins for example).
