Title: request: send to mail recpient
Post by: KeystoneCop on December 30, 2002, 02:00:16 pm
Sure would be nice to have a send to mail recpient option. (if less than 50 lines of code.) would rather have, yadb lookup a cd from a  folder if you are running out of steam.

I dislike this idea for 2 main reasons:
1) I'd rather see a push toward a release version of 9 than more feature piling.
2) Email servers are glutted enough already.

There's also the "distribution of technology enabling copyright circumvention" issue, if you <cough>RIAA pinheads</cough> know what I mean.  :(

not only that most e-mail servers do not handle normaly anything over 5 megs to limit the users storage.

KingSparta was right Highlight Media File> Right Click>Send To E-Mail>   all media files are not copyrighted mp3 files some are pictures. take a look at the file types that are supported.  I agree a push toward a release version of 9 would be nice.  but why not make this progam user friendly as well.  This is not meant to start a word war.

Of course not. Good point/counterpoint discussion, as is nearly always the case on these forums. :)

With regard to user-friendliness as a general topic, you will find me to be a strong advocate. However, in this specific instance I have other concerns. As ever, this is all IMO:

Your point about copyrighted material is valid and logical, and thus due for attack by the **AA's  ;)  The fact that something can be used for legitimate purposes has not stopped lawsuits and bad legal decisions against technology companies. If there is a primary commonality between the targets of such actions, to-date it would be ease-of-use. Another commonality might be centralized authorship, ie. one company to harass and  persecute. I guess my opinion of the situation is now clear  ;D

As to the burden on email servers, this is something that ultimately needs to be addressed at a larger scale. Email is a remarkably inefficient method of transferring binaries, mainly because that's not what it's designed for. Add the proliferation of junk-mail scumbags, the limitations that KingSparta mentioned, and the glut of binaries already being emailed and you have a system that is strained. Until the time that such issues are resolved, one has a binary choice:
0 - Add to the problem because of convenience and the fact that everyone else is doing it
1 - Don't

Nice response.

I am a lazy person, who spent too many years on computers (started with a philco 2000 (tubes). Lazy being a good quaility in programers, I only wanted to save myself from goining back to Bill Gates software to send pictures to a friend.  windows xp home has this option. so I don't see why j rivers would be sued, unless it is for copying bill's code.

JimH Only Owns one River, thats why the company is called "J River" Not "J Rivers"

He might add another river later, he is not sure what one he will buy yet.

I stand Corrected.

The nice thing about assembly (BAL) was that spelling didn't count, you only needed to be consistant. Now I have spent more time than I would have saved.
