Title: Where is CDDB in MJ9?
Post by: cdrmaker on November 26, 2002, 07:00:47 am
Why have you removed CDDB from mj9. YABB dosen't get hits on half my CD's (Mostly R&B). In MJ8 I could atleast choose. Please bring back CDDB!!

I cant seem to find the reason CDDB was removed frm MJ. I would really like to know.
What is apparent is that many of the users of MJ prefer CDDB. Can we get it back for V9 at all.

most Jukeboxes Are Leaving CDDB

No, The Green Door Is Closed

One of the reasons is cost, They Increased the Use of CDDB to programers 600% (think of it like going from $10,000 a year to $60,000 a year)

the other major reason is the CDDB was not stable on all platforms. this way J river is controlling the CD lookups and after testing it seems to be more stable.

the hits on a CD will increase given time.

and J river is working on Digital Signiture file ID's somthing CDDB does not have and it should be aval soon for By File Lookups. take in mind the database needs to grow.

How can we help by submitting "unknown" CD's to YADB when it fails to find them?

Does YADB ask for you to upload if it fails to find info?

Enter the info by hand, right click on the CD and choose "submit to YADB".

Thanks,

Mr. Gateman

It would be nice if not found a box would pop up to allow the user to enter the basic info and then push a button to submit.

if it would you would get more submits

you might know whwere the option is but there are allot of users still scraching there head, some will giveup and go away, and we all know thats not good for J river Or Me (I am always thinking about me, me, me, me, me)

You must have some dirt on Matt, pull him aside in the hall way.

Is YADB supposed to work at all or not in MC9 at this stage of the beta? In my version (9.0.84) it says that this feature will be implanted later but you guys seem to use it already... Is there a problem with my program  ?

What about using FreeDB, as a backup for YADb?

Try YADb. If a match is found, good; if not, try FreeDB (freedb.org). It's bascially the same as the old, pre-gracenote CDDB, so you might even be able to re-use some code. If you want, a successful hit can then always be submitted back to YADb automatically so it's there next time.

(might want to check if FreeDB data can be re-published willy-nilly before you code that last bit).

Just a thought, and it costs $0.00 in licensing to use FreeDB.

Yeah, I've got tons of dirt on Matt. Unfortunately, he's got tons on me as well.

I think you are looking at the individual track lookup/submission feature. This is actually close to done, but not what we are talking about. This thread is about the CD lookup/submission feature.

In short - we don't want to leave ourselves at the mercy of others. The effort expended in "backup" solutions is better spent improving the current solution and in other features (like individual track lookup).

Perhaps, it might be an idea to whip "Gracenote" cddb from the credits in the "about" box?

I LOVED MJ until this latest MJ 9 travesty upgrade. It has totally screwed my XP installation (I can deal with it-I clean install too many times to count).

I'm getting 100% CPU usage when I rip (on my P4 2.4 with 512 mb Corsair XMS) and your yabba dabba database ain't worth $.02.

Sorry to hear you dumped Gracenote. Since you already have my money, you probably won't care when I dump MJ. Get it together or it will be soon. Siren is gone...nothing is forever.
