Title: Media core error - crash
Post by: Blackwood85 on December 02, 2002, 10:27:32 am
When attempting to play a newly created playlist I got a Media Core Error and XP shut down Media Center. Same thing happened twice. then I uninstalled and reinstalled MC. Now when I open MC , in the panel above the player controls appears the message !017ma. When I attempt a playlist I get the same crash as above. How can I fix this ? Thanks for your help.

Could be a bad trackname in the playlist.

Try renaming the file called playlists.jmd in the directory called c:\program files\j river\Media Jukebox\data.

Thanks for the prompt response. The file showed playlistx.jmd. Changed the name, created a new playlist which now works, unfortunately old playlists are gone.

:-[ I am having the same difficulty, except under different circumstances.

I am unable to complete the import function; it runs for a while, imports some file information, then crashes with the "Media Core" error.

I have tried re-naming the playlistx.jmd file, and it makes no difference.

The exact message I'm getting is:

Media Core has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry...

Error Signature---
  AppName: media jukebox.exe       AppVer: 9.0.84.0       ModName: in_ogg.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0       Offset: 000058f9

Is there some kind of limitation on the number of files that can be imported? I have a very large collection (56,000 Files, 240-Gig on two drives). I have succeeded in importing 33,887 files, 149.925-Gig. The scan begins normally and then gives me the error at the same spot.

Does this help? Is there a workaround?

It's been used on up to 130,000 files.

Try importing your collection a piece at a time.  The problem is probably with a file that MJ can't be read.

If you can find the file, we'd like to see it.  MJ shouldn't crash.

I was able to finish importing drive I: without any problems but only after unchecking the .ogg box on files to be imported. I don't know exactly which *.ogg file it hung on, but the error message seems to imply that the DLL that imports OGG files was involved.

Now I'm trying to complete the importing of G: (still with .ogg unchecked) but the MJ windows go blank and the Media Jukebox window banner says "Not responding." I have verified that it is still doing something by bringing up XP Task Manager and learning that the MediaJukebox.exe task is consuming 93% of the CPU Resources!!! It is certainly doing something, so I will let it run for a while and see if it imports any files.

I will add that I never had any problem importing all my files, including .ogg files, in Version 8.

If you can pinpoint any files that are tripping MJ up, please send me a copy at matt @ jriver.com (without the spaces) and we'll get it fixed ASAP.

Thanks for your help and patience.

I have over 817 Gigs (Many Drives) and when i had all the files loaded in MJ i had 131,000+ MP3's

I am currently working on another project so i do not have them all loaded but MJ was this only player that could handle my library (MusicMatch=Lockup & Crash, RealJukebox = Lockup & Crash).
