When I try to play a recently downloaded MP3 I get the following error. There was an error starting playback. Make sure that your system has a valid sound playback device and that it is properly configured in Media Jukeboxs playback options. (double check the output mode, output device, and output bitdepth) I click ok, the error comes up again then MJ crashes with the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Media Jukebox.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.
When I try to check the output settings I am unable to do anything with the settings. The file does work with other players.

It doesn't matter which file, it does it for all.

I don't know.
Try a reboot and a reinstall.
It almost sounds like the MP3 decoder plug-in is missing.

Can you be a little more specific? In Playback settings, there should be a drop-down for output mode which should have at least 3 entries: "Wave Out", "Direct Sound", and "Disk Writer". If you select "Wave Out" and press the settings button, you should see a "Device" drop-down with 2 entries: "Wave mapper" and one that names your sound card specifically.
Do you see any of that?
Try swapping the wave out devices and between wave out and direct sound and see what happens.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it did not help. I went to the plug-in page and downloaded the MP3 plug-in and it worked. You were right it was missing.
Thanks for your help, all is well for now.
