Title: CD Track Info
Post by: V-Man on November 26, 2002, 05:34:05 am
Hi

I'm using MJ 90082. I successfully ripped one of my CDs yesterday for the first time since moving to MJ. Very fast! Much quicker than MMJB Plus.

When I began the process I wasn't connected to the 'Net and connecting to YADB failed. It didn't give me the option to dial up first.

I let it rip the tracks with default names (Track1, Track2 etc) assuming it would let me defer getting the track info until later like MMJB does. But then I couldn't find an option to lookup the info for those tracks.

In the end I typed them all in manually, but is there a way to automatically download track info later? When ripping from a CD, is the CD serial no stored in the mp3 files?

Also not used YADB before, how does it compare to CDDB?

We don't have that option. (yet)

We are however hoping to introduce track lookup based on audio fingerprinting soon.

I always connect to the internet and get all the info for all the discs I'm going to rip first.  Then, disconnect and spin through the pile...

Thats not a very good idea.

sometimes tracks are layed out in difering order depending on the burn and where they were burned. like a burn in canida may not be the same as the USA.

so if the tracks are layed out wrong you may be renaming the file to the wrong track name.

At anyrate as matt said "audio fingerprinting soon" it seems to be coming along just dandy (it seems to be working well) since i just tested a Submit and Lookup of A Track and it came back with the correct info.

This is all Top Secret So keep it under your hat.

OK, I won't tell a soul. It will remain a guarded secret between you, me and that elite group of people that have access to this public forum.  :D

In theory though, something still seems amiss, since even after aborting my initial rip and connecting to the 'net, I couldn't get it to look up the tracks.

I would have thought that what *should* happen is that if you attempt to rip an unknown CD it will:

a) get the cd info if connected
b) if not connected, attempt to establish a connection, then get the info
c) prompt with option to proceed with default names, or to cancel the rip.

if you feel this is a bug put it in the Bug thread for the current version.

I don't see the problem because I have cable.
