Title: Media Jukebox 9.0.80
Post by: Matt on November 19, 2002, 01:04:24 pm
Media Jukebox 9.0.80 beta is available.

IMPORTANT-- This is beta software -- some things don't work, some things crash, and your database and tags may not be totally safe.

If you're sure you want to continue, you can download the preview here:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox90080.exe

Changes:

1. Fixed: Showing the playlist pane would crash MJ.
2. Fixed: The left tree would not draw correctly without MEGA-ME skinning enabled.
3. Changed: Media Jukebox more efficient at drawing in thumbnail mode.
4. Changed: Media Jukebox faster at loading thumbnails.
5. Fixed: Media Jukebox could sometimes "pause" for 5 seconds when switching views in thumbnail mode.
6. Fixed: Image slideshow display wouldn't always honor the "automatically start slideshow" setting.
7. Changed: Image slideshow now pauses whenever the slideshow isn't visible.
8. NEW: Many improvements to playlist property page. (supports drag-n-drop in, out, and around; can create, rename, erase, move playlists; etc.) (not finished yet)

Only report new bugs this build -- we still have a lot of bugs from last few builds to address.

Thanks for your help, support, and patience.

Interesting Thing I Just Noticed.

When Going To The DupFinder Program And Then Going Back To "Media Library" The Skin In Right Pane Is Not Applied (In Properties).

One Of The Best Songs I Enjoyed Listening Too When I Was Younger. The 45 did Not Last Long I Wore It Out.

Listening to: 'Tighten Up' from 'The Best Of Archie Bell And The Drells' by 'Archie Bell And The Drells' on Media Jukebox  Charted At 01 In 1968

OK, how did you do that, I just ran dupfinder and the only song it found in My random song album as a dup  was 68 Archie Bell & The Drells - Tighten Up.. , how did you do that?   Anway, I guess I am not using a Skin, all works fine when I leave dupfinder, and go to media library.  how do I use a Skin,  it this a 68 thing Vs a 65 thing?? Keep it clean... but I did notice it goes all blank, then fills in.

What are the chances that MJ will have the option to REALLY turn off "automatic music importing". It's driving me crazy! If I download 10 songs off the internet from different artists and lump them into one Explorer folder called "Various 1", I cannot create a MJ album called "Various 1". When I "import", MJ goes and makes new album and artist folders for each of the 10 songs based on the tags, and then files them there!!! ARGHHH  ?

Why can't we just have an option to MANUALLY add artists and album folders in MJ like we used to do in ver 7...and then manually import whatever we want into those folders...without ANY AUTOMATIC MANIPULATIONS by MJ.

I'm not sure you would consider this a bug, but I definitely think it is from my standpoint!!

3. Changed: Media Jukebox more efficient at drawing in thumbnail mode.
4. Changed: Media Jukebox faster at loading thumbnails.

WORKING WONDERFULLY !!! .. Ive got 13,000 files with cover art ... and its 138x faster in loading the pics (or at least it feels like it)

Go to Options ------> General ------> Importing and Tagging.  Untick "Automatically import files into Media Library."

When synching playlists with a portable, MJ will only remember which lists were checked for synching when the subgroup containing them is expanded before synching.
i.e. check off a few lists to synch within a given group and synch the handheld.  go to synch it again, but this time do not expand the appropriate subgroup.  Synching will go just fine, but the next time you go to synch the handheld, MJ will not remember which lists you had designated to synch.

Matt,

Any news on getting the plugin interface working?

Album Cover Art file tagging is not working properly...

I have 'Options/General/Update tags when file info changes' turned on... but when I do a 'Properties/Tools/Add' the cover art is not being added to the file tags.

The last MJ 9.0.79 caused so many problems that I had to do a complete un-install including the database.  Upon installing 9.0.80 all files were newly inported & only my older files had cover art imported.  All cover art done with version 9 was missing.

Please explain the difference between...

*  Options/General/Update tags when file info changes. This one does not seem to update Cover Art.  That seems to be a problem.

*  Right mouse click, Tools/Update tags (from library).  Do I have to do this one manually for all new added cover art? ?

Don't they both do the same thing? ?

Raist,

If you've got some features you'd like, your best bet is to open a new thread about it and see what other people say.

On-the-fly cross fade adjustment is easy, but it costs memory, so not sure if we'll do it. We should be able to figure something out for a volume name column...

The "record sound" tool seems to be screwed up.

The "add track name" dialog looks a little funny:

and when I go to record, I can hear the audio, and see the meters moving, but no sound gets recorded. If I select "wait for sound before starting" the recording never starts.

When I close the recorder dialog, I get this error:

Once again, none of my Firewire CD-Writers are detected as CD-Writers, only as Readers. Whatever you did to "improve" this two builds ago hasn't worked for me. This was a problem in V8 as well.

Fortunately, I didn't have any show-stopping problems with 9.0.79.

In 9.0.80, my DVD is no longer shown as a burner.  But now it is a "Compact Disc". Still, that's an advance.

Still have some intermittent problems burning data discs. But have advised JohnT in another post.

Struggling with the logic behind "Single Artist (Incomplete)" in the media library. Have some library entries I have labored on for hours and still can't get them to be considered 'Complete'.  The numbers are in sequence, there is more than one track, and all tracks are in the same directory, but still no go.

Are the file, artist, and album names all the exact same including Case?

Once I got files where artist was "toto     " for some tracks and "toto" for the others ones. Of course, MJ detected incomplete album.

I was getting this when I tried to single click on a track from a CD.  But then that went away and Ripping only died when it actually started.

Kinda good news and bad news. :)

Slightly OT, because it's late and I'm just relaxing...

I nearly freaked when I saw the title of this thread, "Media Jukebox 9.0.80" instead of "Media Jukebox 9.0.80 Beta".  Thought for a second, "Wow, that was a fast beta!"  ;D

Could you give us the manufacturer and model number of the Firewire device you are using? Maybe we could get hold of one and do some testing.

Update: Never mind, I think the next release should recognize your drive.   ::)

I editted the Task - Empty Properties smartlist by removing the references to Album and Track Number. (using the right click - remove method). MJ left the OR's in place, though, so now the rule reads as:

mediatype=[audio] (or name=[] or artist=[] or genre=[] or)

When you say it "died", what is the behavior: does it crash, freeze, or give an error message?

Sorry, don't mean to sound impatient (and I know I'm not going to make any friends) but I've reported this several times in INTERACT and via email and I'm sorely missing ripping.

Open drive failed. Parameter is out of range.

Read track failed.  Drive is not opened.

Would you like to keep trying further tracks?

Sorry Tim, but your emails didn't mention the error message and I couldn't recall what your original posting said.
Anyway, the next release should fix the problem for you.

You're right.

Looking forward to it.  Thanks for all your work on this.  I was seeing the holiday season approaching with (hopefully) many CD's to rip.
