Title: Using the Media Library View
Post by: JNKH on November 15, 2002, 12:05:54 pm
Hi,

Can someone explain to me the use of the following views?

Album Type/Album/Name

Multiple Artists (Complete)
Multiple Artists (Incomplete)
Single Artists (Complete)
Single Artists (Incomplete)

How can I use these information for my library and what does it exactly mean? :-[

"Multiple Artists" means... multiple artists on the same album, generally a compilation.

"Complete" means... complete album when "Incomplete" means... incomplete album.

MJ9 includes an algorithm to detect incomplete album (or suspected not complete album), mainly based on track numbers (if you have 1, 2, 3, 5, 6,... it detects a incomplete album).

Is it/will it be possible to disable the Multiple Artist/Single Artist concept in MJ9?  While it's a nice thought, I personally would rather not use it.

Yes.  Just right click and delete.

You can also add your own with a right click on Audio.

Matt, Jim and Others,

Please will you add a Single tracks (album known) and a Single tracks (album unknown) to the Album Type classifications.

It is counterintuitive to have these tracks listed under Single Artist (incomplete)...

Please consider this :)

It also requires that all the tracks have the same directory path.

I don't understand what you mean.

If you want to list single tracks (if "single" means not included in a complete album) under a "Single Tracks" view, you can do it by yourself (renaming Single Artist (incomplete) or duplicating this scheme with another name).

Mais j'ai peut-être rien compris  :)

I think some people are confused by the complete/incomplete view scheme.

Album Type/Album/Name is not a special view scheme. It is a normal view scheme using a new key "Album Type (auto)".

You can delete or modify it, or/and create other ones based on this new key such as:

Genre/Album Type (auto)/Artist/Album

I think it is a very powerful tool to check your collection (finally most of the view schemes I am creating are to check my db).

I wasn't really confused by it, it just threw me off a little bit after using version 8 for so long. :)  I did eventually figure out how to go back to the way things were in v8; thanks for your help everyone.

What I mean is that if MJ is presented with only one track from an album, how does it know whether the track came from a single artist album, or a multiple artist album.

To assume it is from a single artist abum simply clutters the "Single artist (incomplete)" section.

Understand now? :)

Can I create a Smartlist based on Single Artist (Complete)?

If so how do I enter it in the edit box?

THanks! :)

Yes...and songs without an album tag should reasonably be treated as singles...or? They are not incomplete...they just...are :)
