I had a whole list of bugs present for MJpXIV, but since you've released 3 builds since Monday, I'll have to review my bug list and submit it tomorrow, rather!!
Having said that, here are a list of suggestions which I'd appreciate you considering. I don't think that there is anything that is too "NEW" as opposed to refined, although... I can't really be the judge of that :)
- 1. Smartlist Modifier: A modifier that will find duplicate entries. eg: entering in ~duplicate=[Name] will find everything with Names that are identical, or ~duplicate=[Name],[Artist],[Album] will find a match for duplicates where all three are identical. entering in ~duplicate=[Artist] would have the byproduct of finding all artists with more than two songs... :P
- 2. Custom Fields: Being able to use custom fields to rename files. Eg: for classical files, I'd like to name them [Composer] - [Name] - [Movement] - [Orchestra]
- 3. Exporting Playlists: Nifty feature, but on right click menu for each Playlist, not just on 'Playlists' and on File / Export Menu, please... :)
- 4. Options: User-customisable action for 'Enter' similar to "double click", "play button" etc. And to disable this action if no track or playlist is selected, like after typing in search criteria etc. This might solve a lot of "party mode" problems about replacing entire playlists etc...
- 5. Fields: Make the order in which the fields appear in the list not dependant on the fields list in the options. Every time I add a new field (which has been often, actually), the field order is set to the default...
- 6. Fields: In the properties window, it is possible to hide the sections that you're not interested in. Can something similar be introduced into the Main pane? Perhaps it isn't too necessary.
- 7. Custom Fields: Allow for the creation of custom Groups / Sections (in addition to General, File, Audio, Extended etc.).
- 8. Fields: For images, I don't need to see the "Audio" section and for songs, don't need to see "Display"... Allow specific Groups to apply to only certain media, hiding the rest from view. This will result in specfic fields being easier to access for specific media types.
- 9. Fields: Show the fields under field groups in Options and allow for the ordering of the fields (for display in the properties window/pane) under the groups. The Properties window should then follow this ordering and not purely alphabetical.
- 10. Fields: Consider a separate options pane for customising the fields -- Tree and Display options is a rather cryptic place to hide this powerful feature!
- 11. Install: REMEMBER PREVIOUS INSTALL OPTIONS! I hate having a desktop icon and so have to step by step through the install to change the options to "Start Menu" and "Quick Launch"... Small, but exceptionally irritating, especially given your fantastically frequent updates!! ;)
- 12. Wizard Criteria A wizard that can automatically generate (and thus edit) statements such as Genre that includes 'sonata' or includes 'concerto' or begins with 'classical' or ... etc. put into MJ terminology, this would require typing: genre="sonata","concerto",[classical",... etc. The "click on which genres you want" list is not as useful now that I have learned to do some extra typing... ;)
- 13. Wizard Criteria Should understand time specifications: lastplayed=<24h <=> lastplayed=<1d <=> lastplayed=<1440. Perhaps include minute (as default), hour, day, week, month (30.04 days?) and year (although the latter two seem stupidly long... you never know).
- 14. Sorting Modifier Include a special random sort modifier that will avoid putting two tracks with the same artist (or other specified field) next to each other if MJ can possibly help it. Eg: ~sort=random-[Artist]. If it is impossible (eg: Artist appears more than (n/2+1) times in the list) just do a normal random sort. Does this mean that it is not strictly random? Hmm... ;)
- 15. Limiting Modifier Include a special limiting modifier that will limit the number of tracks by a specific artist, or other specified field. eg: ~limit=[Artist],2 would allow at most two tracks by any specific artist.
- 16. Sorting Modifier: When the wizard appears asking you for a sort parameter, perhaps supply a list that users can choose from. I had to go scouring through the auto-smartlists to see that I could enter field names or "random" in the box.
- 17. Media Library: The ability to make Media Library Groups to deepen the ML further. Eg, under 'Audio' I'd like 'Classical' and 'Music'. Under Images, I'd like 'Family' and 'Humour'. Each, obviously, set with their own criteria to automatically filter. I don't particularly

Wow! Some of these ideas are really cool!! Any comments from the J River guys on the possibility of those field ideas?? They look great especially the remove groups from different media views. Should be an easy way to remove bitrate and duration from my IMages :P

I have noticed a number of recurrent themes for feature requests, but little about the fields (except of course from NoCodeUK!). If there are any other opinions about these suggestions, please let rip!!

It is even worse than a cryptic place: it is a very confusing place since the meaning of this list changed completely from MJ8 to MJ9.
