Title: Lists are Too Slow to display
Post by: jgourd on November 11, 2002, 04:40:30 am
Granted, I have more MP3s than most people (but not King Starta) but I think this complaint is legitimate.

If I click on the "Auto Smartlists (music)" icon, it can take almost a full minute to display the list of songs during which time MJ appears to have hung.

I have 33,499 songs in the list and they are all on a 100MBit ether connection to a dedicated file server.

I think in MJ9 it is taking longer to display any list.

PS: I only have 10,000+ in the list right now.

this is using a 1.8 ghz cpu

"Auto Smartlists (music)" is slow because it's munching like 20 smartlists together.

Are items under "Media Library" slow to display?

We'll play around...

Media Library is pretty fast, under a second. This is a vast improvement over V8.

My DB is now in a state where showing any of the Smartlists causes MJ to crash. This happened after I copied a single smartlist up to my iPod.

when you enter something in the filter it seems slow to me.

Given the size of my DB, the speed at which the Media Library can filter when something is typed is pretty fast, under three seconds.

Here is a link to the MJ v9 database that crashes MJ whenever you attempt to look at the smart lists.

maybe if i turn off auto resize, and all the un-needed col's it might speed it up a bit.

Yeah, auto-resize is slow.  For under 10,000 files, it probably doesn't matter.  However, with a lot more than that, it may be best to turn it off.

It was auto resize that was slowing the list down for me.

i think MJ goes thru the whole list to resize and not just what is currently displyed (i think).
