Title: Just out of curiosity
Post by: Garfunkle on November 08, 2002, 10:19:21 am
What's to stop someone from writing an output plugin that would transcode protected WMA's?

*Please note: I'm not a minion of the demon Gates, just curious

In the US, that would be the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
Peruse it, if you like, here (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c105:H.R.2281.ENR:).

Touche, but I meant more from a technical standpoint. I seem to recall Winamp being forced to change so only directsound out and no DSP plugins could be used with WMAs (protected or not).

And as a Canadian I'd like to point out that MJ has lots of international users :). If you consider Canada a country :P

Security is built into the plugin architecture.
