The reason I ask is that things seem to be deteriorating for me in the v8 branch. The v8 versions that have the internal aspi layer won't let me use the nero aspi which I need to get a Plextor that's on the GH list to uncheck the "generic" box" (Adaptec ASPI didn't work either). On another machine, I have to use the Adaptec ASPI because the internal ASPI causes "WRITE" errors.
Doesn't seem like a good idea to push for fixes in V8 for these problems if the new burning engine is close.

John's making good progress. It's hard to say, but I'd think we'd have something for people to test within a couple of weeks. (no pressure John ;D)
Thanks Remy.
-
Cool. If John needs an advance tester, I'm available ;D
-
By the way i did test out JohnT's Genreic burner (not the one he is working on) and i have to say i think it is getting or is better than the goldenhawk burner.
I last tested it back in june, seems to be working better now (maybe it's me) don't know.
but since his project started i have seen improvement.

I asked John this morning. There was sweat running down his brow but he said tomorrow. You know what tomorrow can mean, right? ;)

(bump)
How is it going re. the new burner?
I'd like to join the fun, but have not been able to use any version after 8.336
-
It's working, but it uses too much CPU. JohnT and Matt are working on optimizing it. There's a good chance we'll have something by the end of the week.
-
Thanks for the update
(smell the fishy smell of baited breath)

Any news on the burning engine front?
-
It's really close, but it isn't working on all machines. If we don't get it out tomorrow, send johnt @ jriver.com an e-mail and ask him if you can have a copy.

Is the new engine going to support CD-TEXT??
That's going to be one of the biggest deciding factors for me as to whether or not I use it.

It's in tonight's build. We're not sure it's right, but it should work. You will be able to apply any effects, like DSP, or transitions, like crossfade and gapless playback to whatever you burn. It also burns directly from any format MJ plays to CD without creating intermediate files.
Thanks to John Thompson for the burning control and to Matt for the new playback engine that works with it.
-
Still playing with it but it's recognizing my TDK 48x burner and writing to in in DAO mode so that's a good start.

Yes, it supports CD-Text. Currently it supports it too well :-/ if you have the cd-text option checked, MJ will try to write it even if the burner doesn't support it. This will cause errors on drives that don't support it.
We'll get that fixed.

My CD Burning options have a checkbox for "Apply current playback settings to the CD" and it's checked, but I can't uncheck it. I'm assuming that will change in the future?
-
Yes, that will be selectable in the next release.
